When Footprints Are Just In Time
I wrote this poem yesterday. We leave our footprints in every life that crosses our path, the real question is what sort of footprint did you leave? I see that what we do to another we do to ourselves. Every decision we make leaves a footprint in our mind which changes the blueprint of peace in our lives. I see that clearly.
WHEN FOOTPRINTS ARE JUST IN TIME
Every life is a gift,
Every person precious,
For when you look through eyes that soften,
You see the beauty not the edge,
And this is the ledger,
Of debits and credits,
That profit from your actions,
Or leaves you in deficit.
We each have the power to choose,
Really no-one can tell you who to be,
You must be your own self,
As life becomes a decision tree,
Or a spontaneous mystery,
For we cannot predict the future,
We only choose who we are in the moment.
I have to live in my integrity,
I never planned to continue,
But my heart demanded that I question,
And I am questioning the heart of what matters,
For it matters how we treat people,
It matters that we respond,
For this is the pond of our true reflection,
That is the mirror of truth.
We are footprints in the lives of each other,
And the question is what sort of impression do we leave?
Running walking jumping?
Light and fleeting?
Gentle and consistent?
Or deep and lasting?
For the footprint of peace,
Is the blueprint of our lives,
For when we walk together,
We find harmony in tune with differences,
We are not meant to think the same,
There can be no loser when all win,
When truth is the lantern of learning,
Illuminating another way,
For when the biggest loser is truth,
Then truth is compromised,
The ocean waves the impressionist away,
To find the classical Rembrandt is realism,
The face is recognizable and clear,
As the art of peace leaves clear impressions of universal love,
As the seal of our common humanity.
So I ask you to walk in my moccasins,
Across the sands of time,
To look at my footprints,
And re-call your impressions,
Are they footsteps I can follow?
For many teachers were inspired leaders,
Are they footsteps that stood in equality?
Where I learned how to stand on my own feet not live on my knees,
I look back to see the road less traveled,
Was a thousand mile beach,
Golden sands of the hourglass breaking on the hard rock face,
I see many footprints have followed close behind me,
I feel the ocean breeze caress my rain stained face,
As I close my eyes to see and feel closure,
I watch the constellations trace eons of time,
For there is no time as the present,
And the moon is full-filled,
For this is the time of a new cycle,
As the ocean washes the footprints clean as if they were never there,
For life is truth itself,
Over which we have no control,
I feel the relief of freedom wash over life.
You are no longer standing in the shadows,
I see you holding the scales of justice,
To rebalance fiction with fact,
For you are coming clean with clarity,
You break bread and give evenly,
For we are all brothers and sisters,
As we sit at the same table without fear or favour,
We see the truth in regretful eyes,
For we all made mistakes,
But it is time to reveal all hands,
As we square the circle,
To see the impossible was always possible,
To throw someone drowning a line,
For it is not a question of sink or swim,
We are each others keepers just in time.
