Everything is Okay – Is it?
This is a very interesting Youtube video called ‘everything is ok montage’. The scene depicts guys with megaphones telling people everything is okay to keep on shopping, to obey authority. As they are talking the police and security approach them to shut them down. They then get on the megaphone again and make visible what is being said to them. Fears raised include filming, terrorism etc. The guys with the megaphones question the status quo and raise questions about freedom of speech. It is very slapstick but of course beneath the humour is a message that questions the apathy of the majority just doing as they are told. What I love about this is that the guy on the megaphone hugs police. You can see them pull back at this public display of affection. I think these guys would love being clowns.
It is definitely seditious as it is speaking about being free and happy. He is dangerous as he is getting people to hug. Moreover, he is making visible control. I love it. I have to say this out does the Chasers here in Australia ABC program ‘War on Everything’. I needed a good laugh.
So have a look and smile at the world we created. We can create a newer world which is free and full of joy and happiness. This is not idealism it is a birthright I feel. I love the police, I love authority as I know this is how we construct things to feel safe. However, what I have learned is real security comes from friendship, community, kindness and compassion. When we learn to laugh at what we created then we can create something that is more about what we truly desire in life.
