Life Is The School With Peace In Mind

This was written to a man I loved. He taught me about peace and for that I will be forever grateful. Somehow I was able to see past the facade he showed me, into the truth of the life purpose. That is what is meant by ‘to see not to look’. When you see, that is awareness of the reality beyond the games we all play. So this is dedicated to him and it represents a closing door and the beginning of a new one.

PEACE OF MIND

Some say life is a school,
And we are here to learn lessons,
Others say we are here to re-member,
That is to remember who we are,
I see it as both
as I am remembering what I have learned.

You were indeed my teacher,
And always I felt respect,
Yet it is my desire to ask questions,
For if I do not know the lesson,
How can I learn what is true?
If I am never taught by clear example?

The Agora for me is always a space of freedom,
As I explored my freedom of speech,
For I came to university on purpose,
As I cannot learn peace from books,
It is a work in progress that is alive,
And as I cried I searched for my true peace,
As I saw the world as my stage,
Myself an actor,
I was shown the illusion of what was unreal,
And in my moments of deepest despair,
The sunrise dawned on me,
Touching my heart to show me,
Only love is real.

For this is not the romantic love,
Yet it is the love of a poets real meaning,
It is greater than the strongest friendship,
For it is the mirror of life itself,
And when you travel to the centre of the earth,
To find our lost civilization,
You find love in the harshest conditions,
As you feel caught between a rock and a hard place,
To find the soft centre,
Is left unchanged.

Poetry is a metaphor,
Life is a metaphor,
Each a geometric symbol,
Each inspires dynamic feelings,
For the metaphor of life is the teacher,
And as we open to life we learn,
To open to love without prejudice we yearn,
To give of ourselves with justice we enable,
For love was always the cards on the table,
For how can one hide what is true,
For the truth is you,
That is why it feels good,
As we are all here to learn,
Not harm,
As life is inherent in every shining moment,
Yet many busy themselves to find merit,
Yet the greatest merit is in finding yourself,
As the truth sets you free,
To see not to look,
Into the poetry book which was your heart singing,
For many have forgotten the tune,
For it brings the melody into harmony,
For we are one family,
And there are no outsiders in this song,
When we work together,
For peace of mind.

“Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.”
