Are You Changing?
I felt to sit in the dark and look at my amazing view and just allow a stream of consciousness, with my laptop on my lap with the screen down, so I can just type without looking. I allowed the landscape to unfold the poem. North and South must come together as one.
Enjoy.
ARE YOU CHANGING?
On my mountain,
I am above it all,
I am the mountain,
I am the wind,
For it rustles my leaves,
As I direct each coil of breeze,
To change direction,
It is the new direction,
Of changing,
And it is blowing me away.
I am in the darkness looking out,
My heart is light,
Yet it is dark,
And I see the lines of energy bursting into lights,
Coal powered stars,
Lighting up my night,
Cars weaving through the traffic,
Flashing lights saying merge lanes,
Yet the darkness descends,
Many are sleeping,
Yet I am awake,
Watching over my world,
With love.
I watch the jumbo circle above my apartment,
I see its flashing light,
Winking as it leaves,
I see myself on board,
A passenger in flight,
Looking down on yet another city,
For I have seen so many,
India came into my mind tonight,
I can’t remember which flight to the other side of the world,
That I looked down,
And saw intermittent lights,
Knowing one day I will visit,
To find myself land in New Delhi last year,
And then Mumbai the financial centre,
From modern transport systems to rickshaws,
From the wealthy after life of Australia,
To the dawn on dusty streets of Old Delhi,
In an museum piece taxi weaving dangerously through the traffic,
Many near misses,
Its horn yelling ‘coming through’,
‘out of my way’,
A sea of humanity as far as the eye can see,
Up all hours,
To make ends meet.
Yet I wonder as I sit here warm and well fed,
If we can meet in the middle?
If North can meet South?
On equal footing?
For the left hand and the right work together,
Yet the juggernaut of progress,
Sends us back to the dark ages,
Again I am in the dark for ages thinking,
For the power has gone off,
I closed my eyes and saw it,
For what we take for granted can be taken,
Our secure world can be shaken,
For our world is changing,
Yet the key question is
are you?
