You Won’t Find Gandhi In A Book
Peace is a choice, each one of us make that choice. There is no saviour around this, only our decision to live what we believe. That is what Gandhi’s vision was meaning ‘to be the change you wish to see in the world’. Simply to walk the talk.
To Change and Be True
Gandhi is not in a book,
Nor is he a video,
He lives in the essence of truth,
He lives in the substance of love,
That gives without receiving.
Gandhi is known by millions,
Yet very few know him,
For she may come in different silhouettes,
Yet to live with principle,
Is the principal,
Who sees his life as the school,
For many are learning from your example,
But what are you teaching?
When you have forgotten who you really are.
I see your goodness at times,
I see your wisdom in moments,
But you must have a strong anchor,
You must have a rock of your own,
For the rock of truth is unwavering,
It can seem hard,
Yet it is the softest voice,
It is the truest path,
For many are floating like the feather,
Following the wind of many voices,
But not hearing the one.
Money is not happiness,
Status is not success,
Power over others is a false god,
The greatest power is truth,
For at the end of our lives,
No one can escape god’s review,
For god is aware of all actions,
Of all inaction,
And when one goes to the slums,
One must be one with the slum dweller,
To truly feel their pain,
Their inequality,
Their powerlessness,
in the face of those who want total control,
Who care not for the suffering of the masses,
for Gandhi has said many times,
“true knowledge gives a moral standing and moral strength”
In this dignity is the strongest diamond,
It is the greatest wealth one can possess,
For it attracts those of virtue,
For those who live lives seeking to please,
Are never pleased with themselves,
For their friends are not friends,
Their lovers do not love,
And the wife is long suffering,
For there is no respect for the child rearer,
Yet she is the tower of strength,
That remains committed to family.
I saw potential in you,
I saw generosity in you,
For your life is at a turning point,
To whom will you turn?
Or will you stand alone?
Will you wake up to responsibility?
And be the change you wish to see
For your daughter,
She is watching your every move,
Can she be proud of you?
Or will she wear a shroud of denial?
The choice is only yours to make,
No one can help you on this journey my friend.
You have a chance,
You have a choice,
To change and be true,
That is when you will truly see,
The man you were meant to be,
In the lotus of true happiness.
