The Real Value of Power

I wrote this today. If we want peace in the world we must educate for values and live the example we teach. In my own life this is what I do everyday. I am the change, no-one can do it for me.

I am not a teacher of anti-bullying,
I am a teacher of peace,
I am not a lawyer seeking right or wrong,
I am a teacher seeking education to make us resilient and strong,
For there is no us and them,
There are only relationships,
In which we all belong,
As this becomes the true national security,
That requires no protection or defence.

I do not look for legislative controls,
To change behaviour,
For compliance is not resolution,
Forced change is not restitution,
It never finds a solution that evolves.

I look for imaginative freedoms,
As solutions,
For infinite possibilities always illuminate perspectives,
As the objective of inspired change,
That looks within to see,
The truth which sets us free.

For in this world I do not see the bully,
I do not see the victim,
I see conflict that is unresolved,
Beliefs unquestioned,
Playing out in powerlessness,
Yet power is not control.

So what is powerlessness?
It is a belief,
It has nothing to do with control,
In truth no-one is powerless,
It is simply a role,
One accords oneself.

Powerlessness finds expression in the oppressor,
Seeking power,
And the suppressor,
Giving power away,
For unexpressed emotions,
Unexplored intent,
Build walls,
These are the stone walls,
Not fertile soils awaiting new growth.

I find REAL HOPES are in universal values,
Real power expresses through values not control,
Through authenticity not a role,
For the mask is what is projected onto the world,
To be seen to be authority,
As law and order,
Yet the youth are out of order,
As they don’t respect control,
Or feel valued,
Or indeed equal,
They are seen and not heard,
As they riot against unquestioned social conventions,
Social pretensions refusing to see the pink elephant,
Of a values free society,
Respecting wealth over poverty,
Paraded as freedom in democracy.

REAL HOPES is a model that values everyone,
…Responsibility is the ability to respond,
…Empathy stands in the others shoes,
For they could be me,
…Awareness opens our eyes to ‘what is so’
Not argument,
….Love sees nonviolence as the peaceful pathway,
That seeks no harm,
…Honesty is the truth that sets us free,
It is the highest respect,
…Oneness is unity, it is comm-unity, for we are family,
…Peace balances positive with negative, a yin and yang of constant change,
For always there is conflict, yet we can make it creative rather than destructive,
…Enjoyment is the joy that comes from within, for happiness expands potential futures,
…Service is a natural expression that ‘lives to give’ when we value ourselves and others,
For there will never be a win/lose when leadership is in service to empowered values,
To win is to remain in service to humility, as one stays below ego,
Equality is not a concept it is a given,
As the higher order of humanity is in service,
To higher truths,
And these always lead to unity.

So my dear friend,
Inspiration brings us back to the beginning,
As endings bring new beginnings,
When truth is our intent not power,
For this is the hour of profound change,
In our worldview,
For the new world re-order,
Is a room without a view,
Only illuminating perspectives,
In peace.
