Emotional Disconnection Changes the World

This was inspired by university lecturers who have disconnected from their humanity. It also includes those who don’t walk the talk. I saw negative behaviours of disconnection as changing the future. As you disconnect, you ignore others (and yourself) and then imagine the potential that goes unrealised. I have spoken to people who have told me a sentence has change their lives, just words of encouragement. Many times clowning people told me I changed their day, just by smiling.

We all make a difference. The question is in which way we make a difference – inspiration or despair.

DISCONNECTION

If I could show you the world,
In a speck of dust,
If I could show you the depth of feeling,
In your child’s blush,
If I could show you the fragility,
Of a thoughtless word,
If I could set your dreams free on the wings of a bird,
If you could see your own power,
Unbounded by status and strings of words,
Enshrined in kindness like strings of pearls,
Where the student is your teacher,
Your conscience is the preacher,
To your inner knowing you’ve turned,
Through service you’ve learned,
That what you give to another,
Reflects the Self,
It is the mirror of the soul,
You are not your role.

The dream of others,
Sets the foundation to the future,
Each face is seeking navigation,
They are seeking validation,
They are looking to you to peace together the picture,
They are entrusting you,
They are creating something new,
Will you spare your time,
And open your world with fresh eyes?
Or will you walk away in silence encased in apathy,
Turning your back on a dream,
No empathy – another performance it seems,
In the endless scenes of life’s unraveling tapestry.

Are you teaching that one must not dare,
To dream and then to share,
Not care for the state of the world,
To lose faith in human nature,
To stay in the mould of stature,
Of conformity,
Uniformity,
Forlorn and incomplete,
Your silence echoes in empty speech,
Meaningless agenda’s of rhetoric,
From the façade of wit,
You are smiling but I see no joy,
Another faceless face,
Disconnected boy.
