Living Earth Television is creating the world’s first global, noncommercial television broadcasting service. LETV finds nonfiction programs made by local television producers and independents all over the world, and translates them for broadcast to an international audience. Through Living Earth Television programs, our viewers can learn about our neighbors around the world — and as we understand and celebrate our similarities and differences, we can build a more peaceful, sustainable world. Together.

In 2010, LETV began to offer program series to existing broadcasters in the USA and internationally. Watch this website and sign up for the LETV newsletter for updates on the schedule.

Martha M. Foster, Founder and Executive Director

As the founder and executive director of Living Earth Television, Martha M. Foster is involved in everything from the minute details of the organization to public presentations in an effort to ensure her dream becomes a global success. The breadth of these tasks includes the internal issues of recruiting and training staff, acquiring and licensing programs, supervising translations and the external requirements of interacting with the board. LETV is the culmination of Foster’s extensive career in film and non-profit work.

Foster’s education has included a BA and MA in Anthropology, classes in Photography, and the coursework completed for an MFA in Film and Video. Foster has taught Anthropology and Film at the college level and consulted for the Smithsonian Institution on Ethnographic Film and Video.

As a documentary film and video consultant for the Field Museum for 16 years, Foster moderated and programmed film festivals. During that time she was also the director of the Silver Images Film Festival, a Chicago festival on positive images of aging. Later, in addition to founding and directing the Windy City International Documentary Festival, Foster developed and produced Chicago Stories at WTTW Chicago Public Television where she and her colleagues won five regional Emmy awards and were nominated for an additional 10.

Living Earth Television is a nonprofit organization that promotes understanding, appreciation and respect as foundations for sustainability and peace.

Programming on Living Earth Television showcases these facets of human life:

* Our Global Neighborhood: People, families and communities, ordinary and extraordinary.

* The World of Children: Kids around the world share their lives, fun, arts, music, food, families and learning.

* Earth Works: Successful projects promoting hunger relief and the provision of shelter, sustainable economies, education, environmental conservation and restoration, and the protection of wildlife.

* Arts and Artisans: Highlights of local music, crafts, theater and fine arts from cities, towns and villages around the globe, from the perspective of the participants.

* Spiritual Practices: Exploring people’s relationship to the sacred around the world, in personal lives and cultural contexts.

* Peace Makers: Celebrating the efforts and successes of people and organizations working to heal conflict and bring peace at every level, from families and neighbors to nations.

* Bridges: Stories of families who have have roots and ties in multiple cultures.
