Help Each Other And Open Up The Door

Here is another great song by John Farnham called ‘Help’. It is about helping people and in truth this is unconditional love. When a person comes to your door in this life, I would ask you to open it and help them. That person could be you knocking. When we refuse to answer, when we ignore the call, when we ignore the email or text, we let down ourselves, we contract in ourselves, we experience an inner poverty. True wealth is generosity, is openness, is trust and compassion. Each person that comes to your door is a gift waiting to be opened. They will have a gift for you and it might be that there is something for you to learn, for you to share, for you to experience and this is life happening. Think of all the need in the World where we just walk past. I saw it in India, Bangkok, Egypt, Greece, UK, USA, Central and South America and New Zeland and last by not least, Australia. So many times I have watched to see if people will give to others. I do think people are kind but there is fear there, there are beliefs there that say this person made their bed let them sleep in it. What does the heart say, if you go there you will find humanity as a shining light, in truth your light will shine.

I am a Rotary Peace Scholar and the mission of Rotary is ‘doing good in the world’, I do love that for when you are good the doing just happens naturally. That is not to say that you need to make people dependent on you so that you feel power, it is not to make yourself feel good as you do not like yourself, it is not to rescue people, for each person does have power. We simply guide them back to the truth of themselves, that they are the decider of their lives, their future will change as their thoughts change. We simply guide them as we would want to be guided and empower them to find their power. That is true help.

I saw a documentary where famous people were helping homeless people and there were many hugs and encouragement. Always there seems to be a sense of hopelessness, or low self esteem or family breakdown. What was beautiful was that those who had chosen to help were there to encourage and help the person find their true power. I really loved to see them grow in confidence, sometimes to just have one person to believe in you can make a difference. I have been in situations where there was little help and I cried alone over a long period of time. I felt I had no-one to go to, but I did find a source of power within myself, so in truth you are never alone. I found love comes from within and a light shone into my life which strengthened me and I never blame those who didn’t help me, as I am so strong today. In a way they did me a favour, but the key point is that help will come, often in surprising ways.

So enjoy John Farham’s song, his voice will blow you away.
