The Set Top Box: Illusion or Reality?
THE SET TOP BOX – ILLUSION OR REALITY?
Violence on T.V.,
Is it you or is it me,
Uni-directional,
Bi-directional,
Which comes first?
Is it violence then aggression?
Aggression in suspension,
Waiting for the moment of liberation,
Looking for a symbol,
To set it free,
To unleash its forces on you and me.
Images dance across the passive screen,
A pulsating beacon calling to you,
You sit in this world,
It is bright and colourful,
It is a friend in your loneliness or boredom,
Is is a window on the world,
But whose world greets you in the loungeroom tonight?
The dictator telling you what to think?
Dangerous shadows warning you not to go outside,
Is imagination reality?
Is the story illusion?
The collusion of fear keeps you glued to the set,
T.V. ratings go up,
With more blood and guts,
Yet is this the reality of a world going nuts?
Are you told of a world on the edge?
Standing at the precipice on the brink?
That you can make a difference,
That your voice matters,
That many people are doing good,
Rather than mindless chatter,
Did you know you are skating in a world,
Where the ice is melting thin,
For what determines the difference
between illusion and reality,
Is there a gap?
Or a missing link?
What do you think?
Some just live between the two spaces,
To escape real life,
Perhaps go outside take a walk with your wife,
Fly a kite with your child,
Live for a while,
For reality was always the moment of NOW,
And this was always the hour,
To watch your own story,
Unfold.
