SEEKING WISDOM

Seeking Wisdom,

Is the motto,

Is the creed,

Is unaffected by greed,

For this is the silent Philosopher who is waiting still,

Who is still waiting,

For your answer.

The Philosophers Stone is  2 billion years old,

It rests unnoticed outside your window,

For many blinds are closed,

Noses to the grind stone,

As work is productivity,

Yet is it productive to work,

If our humanity never dawns?

So can you seek wisdom?

If you seek will you find?

Can you be seen to be wise?

Do robes maketh the man?

Can you make wise decisions that profit?

Or can you prophet from wisdom that is blind?

To  ‘Know Thyself’ is deeply engraved in walls,

When you face your mirror of reflection,

For facts become fiction if the higher good is not served,

When truth becomes the rock of ages,

That is no longer a geological find,

Or an industry boom to be mined,

It was a sacred in-sight very few can find,

When there is no time for inner reflection.

Wisdom is the place of higher learning,

It provokes deeper consideration,

It challenges in Agora’s of diversity,

Finding the silent voice but never a stone wall,

It is not used as dinner table conversation to impress,

To parade one’s knowledge of literature or fine arts,

It is the art of penetration,

It is the lowliest water that erodes the hardest stone,

It is the one that stands alone without fanfare,

It is the lotus that opens in the perfect moment,

For insight is a flashpoint of understanding,

A koan of infinite depth,

It is the true wealth of nations.

The breath is a life dedicated to drawing in the truth

over projection of power,

Love of learning over fear of failure chimes the hour,

Questioning your answers,

Is the university of the future,

That seeks wisdom to go beyond business,

For industrial averages,

Ravage our indus-try,

When industry is not practical,

As the motif is success without conscience,

Placing profit over people,

Status over equality,

For a free university,

Offers a level playing field for all.

Why not create time for a Socratic dialogue?

Leading by example,

Principles of truth, beauty and goodness,

Evaluating a goodness-of-fit test,

Rather than exclusion of those who don’t fit,

For justice re-balances the scales,

And wisdom cannot be bought,

It can only be found in honesty and credibility,

Offering the whole truth and nothing but truth,

That may appear inconvenient,

Yet it is the covenant of timeless wisdom,

That asks ‘to think therefore I am’?

Or ‘I AM’ therefore I no longer think,

For it is the truth that sets you free,

To live authentically,

And this is the university,

That practices what it preaches,

For this is the par excellence,

Making a world of difference every day,

And this is the true beauty of philosophy.
