The Road Map from Politics to Democracy

My dream is to move from politics to democracy where it is no longer power over others and towing a certain line, but valuing the diversity of people and learning to listen and solve problems. I have come to understand that because of the structures of hierarchy we created we have lost the art of problem solving. Those who can issue directives and those who can’t just have to do as they are told or leave. There is no room for real discourse and respecting the variety of views to come to solutions of win/win. I see this clearly. Politics in the current time spends much time and energy on finding fault with the other and looking for ways to build favour with the electorate. This is not beneficial in times of crisis, of which we are in. There is no space given to philosophy to question our direction or to find ways to work cooperatively around the world to solve collective problems outside of influential political frameworks.

I see a future of deliberative democracy and forums to enable the many voices to lead the way. I do have a deep belief in the common sense of the many. As a Research Analyst I have heard many voices and I have learned that the majority can find the answers. Truth or visibility is the highest leadership, when all cards are shown then we can know the game, when we know this we can find ways for all to win. We are indeed one breath.

POLITICS

I feel the ocean of my life,
Wash up over my feet,
It washes my feet in humility,
As the breath of possibilities run its fingers,
Through my hair,
For my cares,
Are cast adrift on the tide,
For life is a rhythm which ebbs and flows,
For it knows that there is no time,
Only change feels strange,
Yet change is unchanging.

Politics is only strategy,
It seeks influence,
It is convoluted in its controversy,
For many decipher its masks,
De-code its interests,
Are they real?
As we peel the layers of deception,
For the game is to win,
It is not driven by best interest,
For the principle has no interest,
In what is best for all.

The warning bells are chiming,
But it is not the rhyme or the rhythm,
It is the blind and schism,
That is the schema,
That plots the course,
For advantage is focused on the self,
Those out of the prism are on the shelf,
They are in prison,
For they are not selected,
They are not elected,
For they don’t fit the bill,
That will change the lives of millions.

Conservatism lives in an imagined community,
With immunity from dis-ease,
For to face another perspective challenges the comfort,
That it is accustomed to,
The economic zone is isolated,
It lives in the bubble of the stock exchange,
Yet the exchange is not fair trade,
It is a blade,
That cuts competition,
And takes us to the edge of civilization.

Yet civility is our only recourse,
It shows us cause and effect,
For the curriculum is a petition,
To think in another way,
To say what you think,
And not hide,
Any more,
For the true democracy is asserting one’s rights,
The right to be true,
The right to silence,
For both are right,
Yet is it right to walk away,
In silence?
For you have nothing to say.
