Culture of Peace

If you want peace, simply be it.

A CULTURE OF PEACE

The Culture of Peace is not a culture,
Nor an experiment seeking to prove itself possible,
Peace is truth realised,
Yet how do we know the truth?
Peace is the dove that returns the message
‘We are all one’,
And unity of the common good is the sign.

Conflict arises in the tension of differences,
It is positive when utilised as an opportunity
To try harder,
To look further,
To gain more knowledge,
To reflect on propositions,
To change one’s position,
It is not the tool of abuse.

Wars are not conflict,
Wars are a brutal denial of humanity,
Leaving the remains of what is human in the rubble of a lost civilisation,
Thus reflecting a primeval chain reaction,
That renders the enemy in chains,
The masters must enslave the free,
Yet freedom enslaves the tyrant,
For fear casts the longest shadow.

Peace is not against the military,
It is the silent witness watching,
As inner conflicts play out as strategy,
Projections are unresolved demons,
Blind conditioning brooks no challenge,
Myths the flags flying high to justify Piracy,
For the bounty becomes the mutiny,
For how can democracy be taken by force?
How can freedom be lived when controlled?
How is it possible to fight fire as friendly fire?
When water is the only elixir of life-force.

Water the sweet symbol of abundant life,
Only evaporating in the drought of reason,
The water bearer balances the flows of life,
For she is universal and gives freely to all,
For all are equal in opportunity when thirsty.

Peace is not a culture it is the source of life,
It is not a choice but a natural sequence,
As peace is felt not intellectually known,
Like water peace resists nothing,
For reality is what is so,
As a result of previous choices,
So simply choose peace and the mosaic moves,
Renewing movement rendering fear harmless,
Resistance signals fear to the fearful,
For what we resist persists and what we look at disappears,
That is it fails to have power over us.

One cannot wage peace,
One can only become peace in action,
For peace allows all things,
Many may cry how can one allow atrocities?
Allowance is not appeasement,
It simply does not resist,
Or gives reasons for fighting,
For just war theory requires reasons to justify,
As innocence is a force more powerful,
For the mirror of injustice reveals no mercy.

What turns the tide of global appeasement?
Injustice in the face of innocence,
Children traumatised by terror,
For they have done nothing wrong,
And in a world of right versus wrong,
Punishment looks for defence as attack,
And this is the achillis heal of an open wound,
That justifies violence to prevent violence,
As an endless war theorem.

Yet how do you recognise the real game as distinct from the end game?
The real game is a win/win,
Utilises the context for greater wisdom,
Listens more than speaking,
Allowing more than controlling,
Sharing power rather than demanding it,
Articulating processes rather than veto,
Is visible to opponents,
For the sum of the component parts are always greater than the whole.

Peace is the greatest universal power,
For the art of power shields genuine virtues,
And this is not a motherhood statement,
Although all mothers know this power,
The game of politics can conjure the good will,
Yet true goodness is selfless intent,
As the permutations of loving intent rock the cradle of civilisation,
For this is the greatest national security,
That changes the world for good.

Peace is the beginning and the ending,
That peaces together the mystery of life itself,
For the new wealth of nations couples human rights and trade,
For the right to sustain all life,
Is the truth realised,
As peace.

Mohandas Gandhi

“Each one has to find his peace from within. And peace to be real must be unaffected by outside circumstances.”
