The Art of the Human Being

This poem was inspired by a person that I was a friend to.  Indeed every human life is an artwork learning to be or not to be.  Yet in truth it is not possible to not be although we can be unconscious of it.  Sometimes people can stand for great things but forget to find their own philosophers stone and reform themselves.  We can easily look outside ourselves and believe we know.  Yet true knowing is instant and it has nothing to do with intellectual knowledge.  It is not a thinking knowing it is a feeling intuitive knowing, that feels in alignment with truth.  Thus to know thyself is the most profound wisdom.  Who are you?  Are you sure?

The Art of the Human Being

Is a human being or doing?

Is the outcome the true measure of success?

Or is success the true art of being?

For within each human heart is the philosophers’ stone,

It is never seen but it is felt,

For each despair and joy is the chisel and the feather of truth,

As joy is simply your sorrow unmasked,

In-forming the shape of who you will become.

To be or not to be is the question!

For there are more things in heaven and earth ever dreamt of in your philosophy!

One path leads silently to conformity without challenging questions,

The other leads to be a free radical fired up in the kiln of many questions.

Socrates stands still holding his chisel,

For the art of true beauty is not in superficial demeanour,

But the misdemeanour of transgressions that formulate opposing angels and indentations,

True beauty is to know thyself and be true,

Transforming rough edges into gentle beauty,

Shape changing new edges to reform the artist to seek first to understand,

For the angel is hidden in the lesson not the curriculum planned.

How to navigate the world of masks?

Whether they be Venetian, impassive, masquerading or wooden,

Sacred, practical or playful?

The mask is worn to conceal what is real,

It is the forbidden fruit,

The elixir of life,

That when quenched from the chalice of love,

Overflows with eternal abundance.

Vulnerability is the art of self-realisation,

To realise there is no vulnerability in truth,

The fears and hurts disappear in the vapour of falsified beliefs,

As the meditating figure silently penetrates all veils to turn over many leaves,

Canvassing the true picture from a pixel frame,

As art is liberating life from the ordinary and mundane to transcend into deeper dimensions,

Being is the extension of who you are beyond thought and form,

To see all faces as the light of grace,

Bright candles flickering in dark spaces,

Illuminating unique perspectives in time,

As diversity embraced is the turnkey that opens the doors to unlimited inner freedom,

To realise success is discovering the truth of who you are …

When nobody is looking to be seen,

For this is the art of the human being.

Mohandas Gandhi

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.”
