Peace Child

Perhaps you become a peace child. Sounds a bit like being a hippy, maybe that is a good thing. I am a peace clown and as a child I was the only one dressed as a hippy and I didn’t take drugs. I always liked the freedom of the 1960’s and I, myself have lived that freedom. I am easygoing with people and I love it when people are themselves. This poem was written in 2006 and as I re-read it I realised the feeling for nature has been with me a long time. The information I share with you is not new. I still am learning this wisdom, which I don’t see as my own. I notice I mentioned Ceres. In Melbourne there is an environmental park called CERES (Centre for Education and Research in Environmental Strategies), it is very popular. They have windmills, organic farming, environmental education, cross cultural events, social networks, cafe and restaurant, permaculture and green technology. Everything is run on solar power. It is very advanced and inspiring. You can check it out http://www.ceres.org.au/. I clowned there during events and tried to start up peace education as I feel this is central to environmental change. Ceres was actually started by unemployed people. That removes a stereotype. When you are unemployed you do have time to think about what you want. Also might mention here that Ceres ( /ˈsɪəriːz/) was a goddess of agriculture, grain crops, fertility and motherly relationships. Nice image.

Let’s educate the children for peace. That’s a joy filled thought.

A PEACE CHILD

Peace, laugher, yin and yang,
Is in the songs that you sang,
Your voice is calm and strong,
Your pace is warm and patient,
For peace is found in the small acts,
In the kindness to a kitten,
In the moments feeling smitten.

It is found in the circus ring,
That encircles joy and amazement,
Lighting up the eyes of a smiling child.

For life links the days like daisy chains,
In a necklace that graces the heart,
For grace is free flowing,
It is going with the flow,
For this is the lesson that meanders,
In the river succumbing to life,
For as we float with our dreams,
As we let go of our expectations,
We feel the cool breeze of acceptance,
Guide us in a new direction.

Life gently takes you by the hand,
For you understand,
The African tribal rhythm is an ancient calling,
Tuvalu is an island paradise,
For climate change is in the palm of our hands,
Community development is not about trade,
But to develop community,
For this is the common-unity for which we all yearn.

Seeds will be sown in Bombay,
The children learn about re-growth,
For renewing the climate we must change,
In our walk we must talk and in our talk we must walk,
For nature is regulating what we choose,
Our natural inheritance we must never lose.

So walk in peace,
Walk with hope,
Walk in the middle,
With a smile and a joke,
For you are the salt of the earth,
And Ceres is fertile ground,
For the rain dance has begun,
To nourish and quench the thirst,
To win we must put the earth first,
In the charter of human rights.
