Love Never Leaves Your Side

LOVE NEVER LEAVES YOUR SIDE

Sleeping with angels
I am awakened by a shrill bark,
It is dark and disorientating,
I stumble to the door,
The dog is barking at shadows,
I hear him roar,
What for!

I order him to ‘stay’,
I command ‘do as I say’,
My voice is hard and coarse,
I hear my friends voice using the same words,
Commanding me away from the toaster,
I suddenly realise the roller coaster of all mothers,
As they demand their children obey,
For their own good,
For they know best,
As the seeds of superiority are planting,
roots of control.

I lay with my feeling of control like an old friend,
To become familiar again,
Why did I control the dog?
Was it because of the neighbours?
Social convention?
Why was my fear running me?
They may get angry as the street awakens,
I can’t sleep,
Yet I haven’t awakened.

I look into the eyes of the dog,
And it is innocent,
It just went outside for a pee pee,
Heard noises and started barking,
It wasn’t trying to wake the neighbours,
Or being selfish or inconsiderate,
The dog is being a dog,
And yet I am angry,
I came out barking more than the dog,
As I controlled my environment,
I couldn’t see the truth in my darkness,
To learn I am not in control,
As love left the room,
When I got up.

My mind travels this world,
I see all the parents controlling,
I see all employers controlling,
Angry emails demanding action,
Asserting rights,
As human rights is not a given,
Getting someone to do as they say,
For they know best,
Placing power over people,
As a belief unquestioned.

Yet there is subtle human social contract,
When responsibility follows the rules,
Roles pay you to be in control,
And that is your right even when you are wrong,
As you fulfill your contract without parity,
There is no feeling for the truth of reality,
That shares power equally.

No One wants to be controlled,
As nature flows it never blocks,
For you are the rose that unlocks possibilities,
Awaiting the central sun to shine,
Flowering who you are is sublime.

Yet what if we were to choose to let go of control?
And allow life to unfold as nature intended,
To accept all varieties in this garden,
For conditions are designed for each to thrive,
For you are the truth the way and the light,
That shows and tells,
Reveals and heals,
Without controlling the play,
This is the way,
We stay in the garden.

Nature asks?
Are we bold enough to be humble?
Are we kind enough to step back,
Can we allow others to find their own wisdom?
Can we let the dog off the leash?
And stop barking.

Yet fear is the mask that comes as a friend,
To protect,
To defend,
To save others,
Yet what if life is as it should be,
And we were to simply observe
the mosaic shift,
To detach from ‘should’s and shouldn’ts’,
To live the freedom we all wish to see,
To live by example but control it not,
This is the beginning of a new variety.

Love let’s go of the reins,
Love let’s in the truth we don’t want to hear,
Love is your best friend who sees you in the power of your glory,
Shares with you the true story,
That we are each others keepers,
That questions but never controls,
Laughs at the fear to chase away the shadows,
As the white feathers of truth are not arrows,
Seeking no target only a secret place to be found,
Never leaving a mark is to discover the sound,
Of silence.

Freedom is not a motherhood statement,
Rocking the cradle does not mean ruling the world,
Nor is it a paternal edict to be obeyed,
For obedience is not about respect,
It is the simple truth that never leaves your side,
It is the silence in the night where peace resides,
It is gently bringing the dog in as you awaken to love,
To serve, make comfortable and stay close,
Why not let barking dogs lie,
For love sees the good, the holy and the beautiful,
In every Ones eyes.

Mohandas Gandhi

“Only as high as I reach can I grow, only as far as I seek can I go, only as deep as I look can I see, only as much as I dream can I be.”
