Human Rights Lawyers Resurrect My Belief in Law as Justice

I am not impressed by other lawyers I’ve seen in action who set aside their values to serve those who are only interested in self interest.  I am interested in lawyers who stand out in the crowd, who actually care about Justice. They will win my heart every time.  I ask lawyers to deep their values and make choices that sit with them, forget the money it is only plastic. It means nothing.  People have to be held to account if they are corrupt or engaged in subverting justice.  The community wants this. Be the best you can be, do not settle for less.

This came into my inbox.

It’s been a big two weeks here at the UN Human Rights Council.

Recent events show that the very concept of universal human rights is facing an unprecedented threat and we need your help to take a stand.

One day after being condemned for ripping apart families at the US border, Donald Trump and his administration quit the Council. Trump walked away because he hates scrutiny and is hostile to the idea that all people deserve compassion and respect.

There are clear and alarming parallels in Australian politics right now, and it exposes the reality that the values at the heart of human rights – the basic notion that all people are equal and deserve dignity and fairness – can no longer be taken for granted.

Just last night, I addressed the UN Human Rights Council on our Government’s cruelty to the 134 children it continues to imprison on Nauru, many of whom have spent their entire lives in detention.

As I told the Council, no government can truly claim to stand for human rights while deliberately destroying the lives of children.

With your support, we’ll keep pushing for change and hold the Australian Government to account for what it says on the world stage.

Please donate today to ensure our Government faces scrutiny at the UN for its actions back home.

Thanks for your support.
