Patch Adams Clowning in Afghanistan
This video I saw some years ago. I really loved the bravey of Patch and clowns going to Kabul in Afghanistan. He is a medical doctor and his visit to hospitals would have been very helpful to the Afghan people. I loved the brave female clowns going there as well. They brought joy wherever they went and prove that clowns can make a difference. Clowns transform conflict as they are identified as laugher makers and fun people.
Patch travels all over the world bringing joy to people. You can’t underestimate the incredible importance of this work he is doing. Lifting happiness actually can transform conflict and improve health. He would have inspired millions of people. He committed to happiness and has spent his life spreading it and inspiring other people to become clowns and give to live.
I went to Russia with Patch and I observed his deep compassion with children and his dedication. He said to me ‘make whoopee’ I laugh as this is an Americanism. He is a wonderful person. I felt privileged to meet him and travel around orphanages, hospitals, homes, the streets etc. He changed my life and I never forgot the love revolution.
Below is some footage from Afghanistan. Somehow we have to get real about people. Can we move from self interested mindsets and allow ourselves to feel for other people. Imagine your family bieng bombed, killed or starving. How would you feel. The world needs empathy, compassion and loving action to transform conflict into positive peace. I found I just fell in love with strangers all the time. I saw such beauty in people’s smiles and I saw differences fade like mist as an illusion in the light of greater understanding. I feel this sense of service that makes me feel to bow down before all people. There is this sense of humility as you witness the greatness in others. I feel so lucky that I’ve had this experience. I’ve met many Afghans, they are a very humble people and very hospitable. I would have loved to have gone there.
