Another Day in Paradise Or Is It?

This song reflects the expression of empathy for others.  How many times have we walked past those who have nothing.  We see others ignoring them and so we just follow.  I’ve lived and visited many cities.  I am never comfortable with homelessness.  I have been homeless, I have had moments of real despair literally not knowing where to go.  However, I tapped into my deepest faith and things did shift I discovered.  I have also seen home-less-ness as a means of freeing myself from the trappings of staying in one space. I liked moving and house sitting.  It was exciting. I always had a tent so said to myself I always have a place to live.

In my travels I have seen many homeless people on the London Underground, in stations in Paris, New York, Moscow, New Delhi (streets), Armedabad (begging), Cusco (woman in phone box), here in Melbourne, in Brisbane, Sydney.  I remember in London watching a homeless person selling the Big Issue, I positioned myself to just observe the people walking past.  I found it interesting how they walked past and only a few gave.  I’ve seen people go out of their way to buy them a coffee or food or give money.  I gave 20 pounds to a homeless man in London, it was a church yard I accidently stumbled into (site of the plague of London).  The man said ‘spare change luv’.  I then gave him 20 pounds and he was so happy. I recall walking away thinking did I feed a habit, then I thought of his joy and knew that the abundance was his to spend on whatever he wanted. That is love.

All are our brothers and sisters and their state is reflected in how we see ourselves.  We fear where they are but imagine if you give, perhaps you are giving to yourself?

I wonder how the Syrians, Afghans, Iraqi’s, Sudanese etc. are going?  I wonder and send light to all those who are feeling alone, desperate, frightened and disillusioned in the world.  All I can say is that there is great beauty in the world that is not always seen in the media but it surrounds you now.  I send you love, peace and abundance. Your people are my people. The world is my family.
