Media Buys into Bin Laden Story – Is It True?
Seymour Myron “Sy” Hersh (born April 8, 1937) is an American investigative journalist and political writer based in Washington, D.C. He is a regular contributor to The New Yorker magazine on military and security matters. He has also won two National Magazine Awards and is a five-time Polk winner and recipient of the 2004 George Orwell Award.[5]
He first gained worldwide recognition in 1969 for exposing the My Lai Massacre and its cover-up during the Vietnam War, for which he received the 1970 Pulitzer Prize for International Reporting. His 2004 reports on the US military‘s mistreatment of detainees at Abu Ghraib prison gained much attention. (Wikipedia)
Below is a Democracy Now interview with Seymour Hersh reveals his story of ‘The Killing of Osama Bin Laden”. This raises questions about the media unquestioningly believing the President and politicians. For myself it raises how easy it is to fool the people into believing any video based story. How do we know what is true? I think of Byron Katie here www.thework.com and the importance of critically questioning our beliefs given what we learn outside in the media is not based on our own reality but said to be true by others. How do we know what is true? How do we react when we believe the thought about ….? Do we really want to know the truth. Our own truth is always within us and when it is true, it sets us free from negativity. In my worldview when I see division I know there is untruth. It matters not who they are. I am always interested in unity, what unites us, where we see ourselves as each other. I am waiting for a time where ‘the power of love overcomes the love of power”. The love of power has many faces, the real face beneath is insecurity, a false sense of superiority, fear of difference, fear of not enough, desire for control (out of control within) and ego etc. When I see those who unite others what I feel is love acting, I know what love is, it is always good and it shows us who we really are. I see compassion, I feel hope, I see acceptance of diversity, I see no force only allowance, I see balance and fairness and I feel visibility through speaking truthfully. The feeling of peace permeates my soul. It is my soul speaking and I go there for discernment. That is my inner feeling. So whether a religion preaches that it knows god, it knows the word I know this is true when love is expressed in thought, word and action. If it isn’t then I know it is human’s seeking power over others, this is the ego masquerading as truth. When I see deception I know fear is behind it. I feel the person is disconnected frm their inner intuition as the look outside themselves for stories that justify their negative actions. Always the truth is in the light of openness, it is never concealed. So again I never mind the faces (masks), I always look into the heart of what is being communicated – what is the true intent – love or fear? That is how I discern what is true. I always say to people don’t listen to me, listen to yourself, for when you seek truth you will be shown. Life has its own wisdom when you are open.

My thought is – can you kill beliefs? I wonder what conflict resolution would do? I wonder what love would do in the face of violence? I see violence played out on all sides, can the players see themselves in each other? Can they promote democracy through democracy rather than force? Why is there a fear of the truth? Questions to reflect on. When we move into questioning with curiosity a new universe opens up. When we open to diversity and share ideas, even those that differ, democracy opens up. Democracy is not a western notion, it has been around since time immorial. It is about being open to others and not controlling them. It is learning to live in community. The times we are in is a time of learning to live in global community. How do all sides create peace? Can they question their own dogmas? When they do they will see life is reflecting them not the other. That is usually very hard for those in conflict to accept. However, when they seek truth they will turn the finger inward and laugh. We are all in games that are not questioned. Yet if we truly want peace on this planet we are going to have to open our minds to difference on all sides. When we do the teacher (falsely believed as an enemy) will help us to see what we can’t see. Then in the end when we wake up, we will realise that life is the real teacher. The real truth sets us free and always its roots are in unity. I had an interesting thought about terror. When you take the error out of terror, then you are left with T, let’s have a cuppa tea and talk about what we fear and then let’s transmute it with creative and wise actions that unify us all.
