The Lambs of God at Taralina

This poem is dedicated to a married couple I have known for 23 years, who have been married for 46 years and are still in love. The husband is an artist who built Taralina for his wife as a statement of love. I have described some of the rooms in the poem. They always speak of love and beauty and they wonder at all the marriages breaking up around them. They have created an oasis in a place called Beaudesert. It is a place where they welcome friends and give generously. They told me they love to offer friendship. They have no religion just a love of dancing and music. They are in their 70s and look at least 10-15 years younger. They are very healthy and spend time in their amazing garden. To me they found their success, it has nothing to do with money. So nice to spend time here. They gave myself and a friend a bed and lovely company, out of kindness. It is so good to have treasured friends. I feel priviledged.

A BEAU IN THE DESSERT OF TARALINA

There is a bow in the dessert,
For she found her sweet beau,
He found his flower in the desert of his youth,
She smiled with twinkling blue eyes,
And twirled in a ribbon dance for his eyes only,
Wrapping him in her presence,
For he is the Spanish conquistador,
Stamping his feet with a rose between his teeth,
He stops and waits as romance is tender,
she swings her fluted dress as infinity,
A figure 8,
He sees red as the rose is in bloom,
For she is an English rose so delicate,
Her black cape and red frill thrills him to take his bride home to Taralina.

For this love story needs no armour,
As amour is the Spanish lullaby,
As horses are galloping frescos,
Elephants remember friends,
The bull bravely fights for freedom,
Archways are the silvery moons that curve and flow to make an entrance,
Pastel diamonds a patchwork quilt amuse the jester,
Laughter and friendship fills the chamber with lyrical frivolity,
As his song of love for her swirls up the spiral staircase,
Mastering wit at their medieval banquet,
For these are the nights of the round table.

The Egyptian bathhouse refreshes Isis with embalming perfumes,
For she is the goddess worshipped as the ideal mother and wife,
A matron of nature and magic,
Laurence of Arabia a soldier resting in the tent on the 7 pillars of wisdom,
For wisdom has buildeth her house he decries,
A philosophers stone the foundation of equality and tranquility,
To lounge as horses are wild and free in Mt Tamborine,
Paintings of nature adorn a gallery sketching the contours of life,
For the real life has strong foundations embedded in the beauty of true love.

The shape of the heart,
Joins two halves of the whole,
Melodic hums and singing for no reason,
Contrasting seasons coming and going,
Family gathering around the hearth,
Glowing good health as personal care,
Is rare as they stare into each others fire,
They know the universe is unlimited,
For their one verse is ‘to entrust each other with the freedom’,
Orbits an irresistible gravitational pull,
Wrapping warm hugs and cuddles
basking in the sun of good fun.

To awaken the morning dew glistens vitality into a new day,
Invigorating a healthy life essence,
As they attend to their true nature,
Blooming a Garden of Eden that works,
Displays to all such inner beauty,
For ‘Taralina’ is the morning star that leads many to Christmas every year,
Inviting all to share wines, cheese, bread and bounty,
To share the family home,
Is the open door that never closes,
For how can one be alone in good company,
And a company of good shepherds,
Are the Lambs of God,
As humility plants the flowers of love,
From the garden of endless variety.
