What if ETs landed?
It is interesting to change perspectives and imagine how humans are seen from the viewpoint of other civilisations not of this earth. If you look into the sky it is hard to imagine we are all there is.
I look from the perspective of our world and it is clear to see the duality of ‘us and them’. We tend to categorise on the basis of differences or similarities. We divide ourselves quite naturally. It is so interesting to see how people do it. I remember when I was teaching peace to children when I divided the class by eye colour and favoured one group over the other as an experiment in learning about discrimination. As soon as you label one group and separate them, they naturally start to identify with the group. It is as if we see differently on the basis of a belief.
If people have always lived in division they no longer see that they are doing it. It becomes normal and unquestioned. Until someone comes along and says ‘hey the emperor has no clothes’. Everyone is shocked and suddenly they see it is so. Beliefs are very powerful and we see or don’t see on the basis of what we believe.
I look around the globe and it amazes me when I see the national boundaries and how different cultural groups are divided by borders rather than traverse the globe freely. It seems the only free movement is capital flows and those with the money to travel. Yet they are bound by a passport, so they have to gain permission to stay in another part of the world, which in truth, is all our world. We are earthlings on planet earth. Can we all see it as our home. When I was travelling I kept reminding myself that I was seeing my planet, my nature, my people in all different shapes and sizes across this world which I could easily see as my mother. For it supports my life in every way.
When I teach children about Oneness I show them a world ball and explain there are no words printed onto the world to indicate top/bottom or country. If one is looking from a space station all we see is one continuous ball, rotating, with clouds, landmasses, snow capped mountains, meandering rivers, tundra, weather patterns and beyond that a ball moving in space and time.
I wonder if extraterrestrials landed, how we would see our selves in response to such a visit. Would we suddenly no longer see American, Australian, Chinese, Korean, Russian, Mexican, aboriginal etc. Would we all come together as one and see ourselves as people of the earth. I wonder if all the differences would drop away as we are presented with another civilisation completely different to our own. Suddenly the belief of difference turns into oneness in moments. I wonder how we would explain our world to them? How we see the world we live in and the way we organise our lives? How we would explain our emotions, our families, our work and organisations?
So if extraterrestrials were watching us and observing our behaviour I wonder what they would see? Whether they would notice the pollution, nuclear testing, wars, trade, smoke plumes from burning forests spiralling up into the atmosphere, the massive populations in cities, cars, trains and systems of governance that enforce rules and dictate life in a certain way. I wonder what they would think of the invention of currency? Where we process natural resources, trade goods and services and determine price by how much a product or service is demanded and that it didn’t depend on need. I wonder what they would make of those who are very rich and those starving? Those included and those excluded given we are the same species? How they would see males and females and the differences in how each is perceived? How they would look upon children and the lives they live? I wonder whether they would look upon our ways curiously and what they would like to communicate to us about their worlds.
Sometimes I wonder if some civilisations were more advanced. Would love be a sign of an advanced civilisation or intelligence or technology? Would they be technological and what sort of materials would they use? How would they travel through space? Do they time travel? Would they have bodies like ours or would they be completely different, what languages would they speak, or could they communicate through telepathy? Would they be single consciousness or group consciousness? Would there be a few civilisations or thousands. Is it possible they have been to earth before, could they be related? That would be amazing if true.
To my surprise it was recently reported in the newspaper that the FBI had a memo indicating that aliens were found in the crash at Roswell. Some agree and disagree with this.
When I was overseas I met people who said they had seen UFO’s and a few of my friends said they had seen UFOs. Also a quick Google search of sightings shows many sightings of interesting lights in the sky. The most interesting one is the mass of ships filmed over Mexico. Is the footage real or hoax?
So what does Wikipedia say about extraterrestrials.
Extraterrestrial life (from the Latin words: extra (“beyond”, or “not of”) and terrestris (“of or belonging to Earth”)) is defined as life that does not originate from Earth. Hypothetical forms of extraterrestrial life range from simple bacteria-like organisms to sapient beings far more advanced than humans. It is currently unknown whether any such forms of life exist or ever existed.
The development and testing of theories about extraterrestrial life is known as exobiology or astrobiology; the term astrobiology however also covers the study of life on Earth, viewed in its astronomical context.
Various controversial claims have been made for evidence of extraterrestrial life.[1] A less direct argument for the existence of extraterrestrial life relies on the vast size of the observable Universe. According to this argument, supported by scientists such as Carl Sagan and Stephen Hawking, it would be improbable for life not to exist somewhere other than Earth.
One possibility is that life has emerged independently at many places throughout the Universe. Another possibility is panspermia or exogenesis, in which life would have spread between habitable planets. These two hypotheses are not necessarily mutually exclusive.
So perhaps do a Google search. I think of Star Trek here and the ongoing mission: to explore strange new worlds, to seek out new life forms. I think of Stanley 2001 a Space Odessy and ET was a very popular one. So within the popular consciousness there is more awareness of the possibilities of extraterrestrial life. Mostly we see it framed within scary scenario’s but perhaps if like ET, they were friendly, I wonder what they could teach us?
What do they say when the student is ready, the teacher appears.
