Homeward Bound

This poem was written when after a long time I found a home. Well that home lasted a year then I travelled the world and now I am again living out of a suitcase. I have my moments when it is challenging. I’ve chosen to live on meagre savings and just have enough to get to Sydney. I go to a friend for one week then she can’t accommodate me as a brother-in-law doesn’t want me to stay longer. I have to find a place for 3 weeks so I can work. So again, I find myself in the heart of the unknown, have no idea where I will stay. Have quite heavy stuff to carry onto a bus to go up to Sydney, or maybe a miracle I get a car. All I can do is see where fate takes me. I am so used to this life of uncertainty but when I am tired, I just wish for a home.

HOMEWARD BOUND

Homeward bound,
I have been,
I have seen,
Many horizons,
Many new streets,
For I have been everywhere,
Yet no place was my home,
For I was out of place,
Yet home,
Is where my heart is.

Sometimes we are called,
Sometimes we must answer,
For I followed a rhythm,
That many could not see,
It was a rhythm that set me free,
For I chose not the comfort of routine,
But the side track of uncertainty.

Why would I do this?
Why would I want this?
When I could have $100,000 job,
Why would I choose the unknown?
Because I am living deeply,
Some call it living fully,
Yet this is not doing everything,
Running around,
It is appreciating the smallest thing,
It is a deep gratitude for the meekest gift,
For when much is out of reach,
You focus on the unseen,
For it is there that you teach,
What you must learn.

I chose to learn peace,
I chose to be in peace,
I chose to live with value,
I chose to be one with life,
And it has taken me on a journey,
That I would never have planned,
For one can never plan poverty,
Homelessness,
Aloneness,
A quest… that persists,
For it silently moves me on and on,
When I want to turn and return,
Love whispers in my ear that I am needed,
For the jewel is compassion,
The great wealth is inner knowing,
And I am giving freely,
So that others can learn to give.

I have sought a home,
For I need a base,
My work is disparate and I must consolidate,
So I have asked for a home where I am happy,
A place where I am free,
For I must remain essentially me.

It was gifted,
I was granted,
For my wish came true,
And I am independent after 7 years,
Staying in other homes,
For I must tread lightly on the earth,
Yet now I am coming home,
It is a feeling of place not family,
It is a feeling of self determination
Without question,
Without petition,
For I was given freedom,
Because I have forgiven,
Those who have forsaken me.

My smile is a mile long,
For home most people take for granted,
Yet for me it is a grant,
An unending joy,
As I create my space as I would like,
My books of global politics and wisdom,
For my path is to combine,
The satire and sublime,
For truth emerges from between the lines,
When one sees to look,
That from the greatest humility,
Comes the greatest joy,
For all of creation is a blessing
Of indescribable happiness,
And I am living in a bliss,
That I cannot describe,
Yet I am alone,
Yet totally complete,
And feel amazed at my good fortune.

For the meek will inherit the earth,
For this is the fortune of the good,
A re-birth of realisation,
On the horizon of new visions,
For unity always comes from division,
and we are returning to the source of life,
itself.
