The Right of Earth To Live

The Right of Earth to Live

Rainforest,

Reaching up to touch ancient skies,

From seeds to proud stands,

No plans,

No standards,

Still,

Untilled,

Waiting,

Generating,

Habitat,

Homes,

Organic matter,

Does it matter if it doesn’t breakdown?

Microbal transformation,

Feeds the forest in-formation,

As nature is re-form-ation,

Recycling the old with the new,

As growth is re-new-able,

Spiral cycles.

Rainforest raw material,

Transforms into housing scaffolding,

Cutting down a football field every 2 seconds,

In games of reckoning without frontiers,

Infinite inputs without bounds,

Demanding supply,

Generating excessive demand,

Lies the fault line in economics,

As preferences were wants that replace needs,

Polished dinner tables of cedar,

Floor boards of red wood,

Chairs of ebony,

Panels of Jarrah,

As we go against the grain,

To glaze the forest floor,

In favour of grazing,

Beef burgers or prime real estate?

As we sell off the estate,

Burning coal is not free energy,

In a sea bed of lights,

As seen from space,

Is the demise of the human race,

Or we cannot see the old growth for the trees,

We cannot rectify action with consequence,

We cannot see the stone age in defence,

And this is the offence against nature.

The boy in the bubble cannot exist without artificial intelligence,

The consumer in a city cannot resist the latest video pursuit,

The farmer now wears a business suit,

Supply is multinational drivers of control,

As roles become justifications for planetary destruction,

As many believe they need a job for protection,

Yet our real job is to no longer believe in projection,

But to implement restitution,

To the earth’s right to life,

For this gives us the right to live,

On earth.
