The Poetry of Love: Sail

This is a poem I wrote for a man I loved. He didn’t love me. This love was unconditional. The end of the poem asks will you pull me to you or cut me adrift. In the end I realised it was up to me not to drown and I cut myself adrift. I realised that I am the source of love. I was the secret in his silence. He never released me, he chose to left me drift. I didn’t become bitter I just continued to love and learn from life. He was my greatest teacher. I will always love and risk being hurt, as love is for me my answer to life.

SAIL

Its getting dark again,
The dusk settles like rust,
On ancient memories,
I have seen you,
From amidst the crowd,
I have loved you,
Without a sound,
How can you love me?
You have not opened your eyes,
To know me.

Sparkles of my love I have sent,
Scattered on the clouds of my thoughts,
Urged on as inspiration persists,
My words calling to you in a secret script,
But how can you hear?
We haven’t even kissed,
We haven’t even spoken,
Our ships have missed,
No collision of mates,
No friendship awaits,
I must go my love,
The sun has descended,
It is getting late.

I wish it were not true,
Yet I am glad I feel you,
If the wish is the sculpture of my future,
Then I have created a masterpiece,
It cannot be seen,
But in the ocean of my waves,
It is the rock on which I carve your name,
In love there is no blame,
It just erodes my resistance,
It keeps me waiting in vain,
I know it seems impossible,
But love keeps me sustained.

I sail freely in this moment,
my adventure opens up,
To the tempest of the unknown,
I sail honestly,
I sail openly,
I sail over the horizon of my dreams,
I will take on life in the sea of my hopes,
I will not drown,
I cast the line of love
to you,
Will you pick it up,
And pull me to you,
Or will you cut me adrift,
Allow love to float away,
No words passed your lips,
I didn’t hear you say,
That you found your way.

The message in my bottle,
is the secret of you,
Whispers on the winds of time,
That my love is blind,
It seeks only to find you,
Why? I do not know,
Nothing matters in this show,
I have no land to anchor,
You have given me no port,
You have given me no call,
I can’t hear you behind the wall.

But I call and wait,
It is my echo that returns,
Amplified in the chamber of fate,
My love burns the mask,
My shadow casts who you see,
Against the wall of your fear,
My reflection laughs at my tears,
What if I should fall?
It is not possible at all,
You are not my support,
I am not caught on your line,
My wisdom guides my choices,
All the time.

My ship is blown by the wind of my path,
My inner strength is my raft,
That carries me sleeping,
Into the heart of innocence,
Rocking gently in the cradle of fate,
Carrying me further,
My treasure is buried deeply in my heart,
It can’t be stolen,
The map of lifes journey rolls on,
It ends where it starts.

I am love I seek no gain,
I have no designs on my chart,
The course challenges my terrain,
I just follow like a curious child,
Maybe I see your smile,
So radiant and warm,
Such a beautiful gift,
To hold in the storm.
