Will Politics be in Flux with Single Issue Up-to-the-Minute Universal Voting?

This is an interesting concept and it is a response to the disempowerment of the people so clear in the political system.  The American’s will have their inauguration day tomorrow.  The majority of Americans didn’t vote for Trump and as we see it is largely decided by dissatisfaction with the incumbent party or along Party lines or someone new.  What we see here in Australia is Prime Minister’s being changed as the incumbent becomes unpopular, it is like changing clothes, yet the person who takes the position was not elected and runs a country.  Issues are typically treated like soap powder people will sell the idea, the media (corporate) will back it through their editorials and political biases and the public will be influenced by all of those in power without any real say given they are not informed in a balanced way.  The Flux system doesn’t appear to give a deliberative democracy model of hearing both sides and the quality of decisions it is more about having a say.  I would think it is a first step.  Those involved in the actual issues eg. homelessness, unemployment, health, education etc. would have to put their issue out there.  There is the case of who has access to media? Who has the money to promote their cause?  And so on.  However, that notwithstanding, in the first instance someone can say yes I want that no I don’t.  That is literally baby steps in having a voice.

What this type of Flux technology can do is reorientate decision making to issues away from faceless influences and backroom deals or undemocratic Political Action Committees (PACs in US) or lobbyists here in Australia (donations, corporations with issues).  The Flux system would initially focus on the Senate and the idea is you can have an app on your phone and vote yes/no for the issues.  I thought of this in terms of a survey at the polling booth where people could vote for what they want rather than personalities and parties who typically they don’t know, or they don’t keep their word given other influences.  It is so important that people have a real say in the world that affects them, this was the purpose of democracy ‘of the people by the people’.  Perhaps we get to experience real democracy.  That would be fun.

Sounds good to me, it will be interesting to see how the system responds.

I think we are moving into exciting times.  Democracy over politics! The world is a different place today.  We can never go back to the mass ignorance of the past. It seems technology whilst it can enslave people or distract them it can empower them.   Perhaps that is how the love of freedom moves us.  I wonder about the Flux capacitor, ‘back to the future’.  I wonder.

Enjoy the possibilities of a new world of not a brave new world but a bold new world.  That feels right.

“The Flux Party has no policies, no platform. Instead, members of the public would vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ on each bill before parliament via the Flux app, which would instruct the party’s senator how to vote” ~
