SYSTEMIC ABUSE IS THE NEW NORMAL

What is abuse?

It is when a person gets used,

To poor treatment,

It is normalised,

It is rationalised,

But seldom is it felt.

Can you feel for another person when they are in pain?

Do you turn away?

Do you refrain?

From giving comfort?

Or do you seek personal gain?

For who really gains,

When all lose their dignity.

Those in power are powerless,

For they uphold the façade,

They are care-less,

For money matters,

People are disposable,

Digits on a balance sheet are concrete,

Retrenchment is another word for casting off,

What is unwanted,

Yet those in the upper echelons get generous payouts,

The workers get retrenched,

For class is entrenched in elitism.

Yet what is real value,

Is it in profit or prophets?

Is it in platitudes or attitudes of gratitude?

Is it in values that are lived or mission statements

that no-one remembers?

Picture postcard smiles,

Yet they have not gone the miles,

In your shoes,

Always they lose,

Your respect.

They are not honest at all,

They hide sacking behind stacking favours,

People are forced to apply for the jobs they will never get,

They worked for 10 years in the same job,

Yet they are robbed of a right of reply,

The right to protest,

To ask for reasons why?

Sacking is camouflaged in recruitment protocols,

Experienced staff judged as old and dry,

True and tried,

They receive a letter saying goodbye,

For the matter is not up for discussion,

Their lives in ruins,

Depression as chasms,

But managers simply look at the next matter,

Pragmatically move on,

For all that matters is that they have a job,

And for that they will betray themselves,

Citing a world of dog eat dog,

Yet it is a mans world by design,

For feeling is the benign tumour,

The cancer of detachment is the sublime rumour,

That offers no meaning or reasons why?

Yet he pretends and keeps believing,

In systems of abuse.
