Peace is the New Curriculum

Today is the International Day of Peace,

A day to Unite Nations,

To ask for one day of peace,

For all violence to cease and desist,

For what we resist persists,

And what we look at disappears,

But who really cares?

So many are fighting,

There are many weapons of war,

Some overt some covert,

Some use words,

Some remain silent,

Some use bombs,

But all wars seek to cause harm,

Refuse to drop their arms,

For the art of war finds an enemy,

And must make the other wrong so the ego may be strong,

Discriminating because the other sings a different song or does not belong,

For they are unable to own their part,

At this stage,

Unable to turn to a new page,

In fear of reprisal,

In fear of humiliation,

In fear of legal action,

And this is why there is escalation,

To avoid what we fear,

Believing worse case scenarios,

Instead of creative problem solving,

As all problems can be resolved.

Yet what if what we fear was a teacher?

What if what we fear was false evidence appearing real?

What if we stopped defence and allowed events to unfold naturally,

Knowing wisdom was the real seed grown,

Would we own our part and learn the lesson?

For the lesson plan transforms into a new curriculum when new knowledge is applied from first principles,

To know a fair solution is visible when chosen.

Peace is not cessation of violence,

It is not a forced settlement,

It is not the cessation of violence,

It is a natural state of connection,

It is the resurrection of truth and reconciliation,

To lay all cards on the table,

An open society dialogue,

For peace doesn’t make the world change to conform,

It reforms itself to know that the Philosophers Stone,

is not mythical or magical,

It is symmetrical and reshaped by questions,

For to ‘know you do not know’ is the open mind,

Gathering in an Agora of Governing elites,

Peace is found in a democratic question time,

To meet questions with answers,

To questions answers with meetings,

To peace together the truth to restore harmony,

To face inconvenient truths that are necessary,

For peace is not found in suppression of expression,

Or unexamined judgements,

It resides in equality, fairness and honesty,

No matter the perceived differences or wealth,

For what you do to another returns always to self.
