Scott Ritter former Spy: War is Not Glorious It is Not TV

This is for the children that think war is cool. I met one when teaching peace who wanted to be a soldier when he grew up. I asked him what about problem solving for a win/win. If you kill someone that is a win/lose. He saw bad guys as all bad, he had no idea that war is not about good guys and bad guys it is about using military means to assert power and control over another group. Many of the soldiers are young men who are recruited to go to war believing they are serving their country to protect others. They are not bad men, they are misguided about war, there is no glory and as Scott Ritter said it is not like television. This little boy thought it was a good thing to go and kill and that this was getting rid of bad guys. He had no concept of conflict resolution and solving problems as an alternative to killing which of course, he could not possibly understand. He just believed the television, violent video war games and violent movies, and it looks cool, that’s what men do. Scott says there is nothing good about war.

Below is a video by Scott Ritter. I heard him speak at the University of Melbourne and was very impressed. I asked him for an interview for community radio. I was invited to dinner with him and some peace people. When it was time to interview him we went to his hotel. I then realised I had left my mini disc at the restaurant. Nonetheless he invited me to the hotel and I spoke for 4 hour in his hotel room.

Scott was promoting his book Waging peace: the art of war for the antiwar movement. Most of our discussion was about my REAL HOPE Program discussing peace, nonviolence and anti-bullying for children. I told him what it was like to be a World Peace Clown, that I see no enemies that I love everyone. I can’t even step on an ant. He told me what it was like to be a soldier.

It was funny the two of us looking at each other having had completely opposite lives yet joined in a moment by a common desire for peace and truth. So it was fascinating to meet him, you could call it a miracle.

Here is some information about the reality of the war in Iraq. He is a powerful speaker and it is great to see the courage of a soldier coming out in pursuit of life, liberty and happiness, for only truth will lead us all there.
