Smiling through Depression
This is an excellent video and it speaks about Robin Williams death. It talks to mental health and the fact people go through very difficult times. What is concerning is that people are largely non responsive. When I went through this I was astounded that there was no response.
The issue of abuse, the issue of hardship, social isolation are incredibly painful and the desire to finish can be very powerful. Who are we as a society in the face of someone else’s pain? Do we step up and assist or ignore the person?
When I look at the difficulties around the world I can see that people typically don’t want to get involved, don’t get it in their experience, don’t care (indifferent) or simply look the other way. I’d like to start a conversation where we respond to another as I have always responded to people in my work as a clown. I never let one person walk past me without smiling, laughing, interacting – why? Because I value every ONE.
I don’t regard depression as an illness I regard suppression as the catalyst for depression as people do not feel free to to express themselves. The worthlessness is about the mirror of others and how they treat each other. Importantly, people switch off, plug in and ignore others. I am always amazed at how people don’t even look at each other on the street. I always smile as I love people. I consider the mental health in those who are detached not the sensitive one who feels so lonely or hurt by others misconduct. The answer of kindness is absolutely true. I have produced a video on kindness as I felt inspired. When I clowned on the streets it was not to gain attention it was to give it, because I felt joy when I was kind.
This is video worth contemplating. What would love do next?
