Democracy NOW!! News Cast on Trump Win
Of those I have spoken to asking their opinion the common responses is ‘it will be interesting’. Some say they understand why Clinton didn’t get in given her background and values. Then on the other hand perhaps this new President will catalyse engagement in politics by people who hold strong values. I think the negative aspects in US society that are unresolved is now visible. Life is a mirror and the negativities existing in American society are surfacing in the public face of Trump. This is a time for the Americans and the world to contemplate intolerance, fundamentalism and what winning really means. Is it more important to win or to thine own self be true?
At the end of the day it is up to all citizens to become involved in their country and to decide ‘who they are’. Do they adhere to the Founding Fathers or libertarian values or do they fully embrace capitalist values of self interest that brokers no challenge, that is intolerant to those who differ? Perhaps the terrorism we see in the world is in ourselves? What is true?
Perhaps it is time to SPEAK UP and make democracy real NOW!!
