Who would you be without your story? Happy?
Byron Katie is not well known in the world but her reputation for effective peaceful transformation is growing. She is awakened, although if you asked her she would answer ‘I don’t know’. It would be an honest answer as she is coming from a space of inner truth that allows for what is and does not presume to have the answers. From this space the world becomes open to possibilities and to love in every moment. She wrote a book called A Thousand Names for Joy. It describes her awakening from spending time in a halfway house. She was a nightmare to others and deeply depressed. One morning she was sleeping on the floor (too unworthy to sleep in the bed) and a cockroach ran across her leg. She woke up and I would say literally woke up to the reality. We are one. Now for those of us who have never had a peak experience or a moment of realisation her story may seem very strange. Yet any testimonials of those having awakened they say we are all one. They say it is one formless reality. They see and experience a divine love in every moment. There is no fear. They no longer identify with the ego or the body but instead a reality that is infinite. This reality is timeless. Thus what is there to fear. She speaks from this reality and describes what the awakening is like. It is to live in total gratitude and service. Love is unlimited and has no judgement. Judgement has fear in it. That is why whenever you hear people speaking of division they are in truth in fear. They are having a war with others and justifying it as truth. The only truth is that Only Love is Real and love will harm no-one as every person is one with you.
When I was studying in Bangkok on the Rotary Peace and Conflict Studies Program. I kept finding myself inspired to look into transformational peace. The teachers were speaking of conflict, conflict resolution, disarmament, mediation and so on. Yet I kept finding myself searching, someting was missing from the teachings. I Googled ‘transformative peace’ and I found Byron Katie. As soon as I found her I knew she was what I was seeking. I totally got that we all have a story and we hold to that story as if our very identity depends on it. The truth is, it does. Yet what if our identity is not a constructed one, a trained one or a indoctrinated one? What if our true identity is with life itself then what? I have come to understand more clearly about the ego and how controlling it is in each of us. I realise the true nature of humanity is deeply loving and kind. I, like Byron Katie am realising that life is always kind. Now that can be very hard to accept in a conditioned world where we see death, murder, criminality and unkindness. Yet love is the background noise always present, observing what is. Always when you question for truth you will find how you attracted to yourself the events and always those events are neutral. We are the ones who feel our emotions, who imagine a future and a past, who decide good and evil (duality). Yet equally it is the power within us that can realise truth within us. No other person can tell you the truth, not me not anyone. Only you know what is true for you. That is what I love about The Work, it is for you to find your own truth. You either do or you don’t. If you don’t you suffer. So there is an incentive to find the truth that sets you free from unhappiness. When you feel peace, you found your truth.
I see great confusion in our world, so many fighting, so many unhappy yet if they questioned their negative thoughts for truth, they would be surprised to see how it is not true. So check this out and find your own truth. Only you can set yourself free.

I found that suffering is optional. I found a joy within me that has never disappeared, not for a single moment. That joy is in everyone, always.” — Byron Katie
“I heard about The Work from my dad on a summer trip home in 2012. At that time I dismissed what he said as ‘more of the same twisted thinking that got me into and kept me in this abusive marital relationship in the first place.’ Later, in summer 2013, a life coach quickly identified the horrid mess my life was in and told me to: “Do The Work!” Desperate for things to change, I immediately began watching videos on YouTube and using other online thework.com resources. Since then my life has been excitingly and unexpectedly turning around!” – S.P. |
