Will Dreamers Rule the World?

My friend wrote this when she was in Year 11, she is now in her 40’s.  She is editing my book and was inspired by my poetry and kindly sent me one of hers.  I was so happy to read it.  I love poetry, it is from the heart and she told me later when she wrote it, it was heart felt.  Of course poetry is the literature of the soul.  It indeed has a role in who rules the world.  Yet in truth poets often move between the rules as they reach for the freedom of expression and creative visualisation that breaks free of any fetters.  Poets fly to great heights and from that higher perspective can see alternative worlds.  Our future will be crafted by the poets and artists as we envisage a new earth.

Dreamer

Dreamer, you incomparable magician,
You treasure all the simplest things,
Which to your eyes become superb.
You fill your life with flights of fancy,
You’re like a bird when he flies high;
And none can claim you
Or ever make you theirs
For dreamers can’t be bound.
They can give freely
But can’t be made to give;
And what they give is greater
Than any earthly goods,
For they disclose a heart
Brimful of purity and love.

They are the writers of fairy tales,
The composers of melodies
And the great poets of all nations.

Some say they do not like you dreamer,
But only you can fill the days with bliss.
Some say you are a coward,
Yet you would give your life to help;
And though the moneyed judge you poor
You are the richest of all people.

You, ought to rule the world dreamer…
