Philanthropy is the Market for Love
I can relate to this talk, I get paid nothing or peanuts to teach peace education as a clown. The schools say they have no money or you have to book in a year in advance. So if you want to promote something that is good you find your own financial resources extremely limited. To continue in my work I’ve had to become homeless and house sit for free and I’ve had to learn to ask which is something I never liked doing. I’ve had to be reliant on others to help my work which has been piecemeal. I’ve found a lot of kindness in the community and really my faith for a peaceful world has deepened. People give naturally.
However, I have definitely come to the conclusion that peace or indeed the market for love, it has to be focussed on and marketed if we wish to collectively create a world that is loving, kind and expanding in possibilities for the betterment of all and the sustainability of the planet. The funding of messages is important as a teaching tool and reinforcement of values and modelled behaviour so we are all on the same page and working together. I can see that world, as I live in it within myself but to project that new reality into what we currently see as reality is an interesting notion.
This new worldview competes for space, attention and funding with the profit sector. The profit sector is increasingly, in my view, creating more social and environmental harm in the manufacturing of demand for things we don’t need rather than finding creative ways to fulfil people in their real life purpose and with balance. That is not to say the material world disappears it won’t, but we will make higher social choices of what is healthy and what is not for people in general. This we can do given what we choose to spend on and support. As we start to value the natural social world over the material world I think naturally our choices will change as we see ourselves in each other rather than competiting for more prestige or money without regard for the social costs. I loved some of the ideas in the video about getting people to do 3 day walks and challenge them to raise millions and better themselves as well, sounds like fun to me. So there are many ways to send the good message when it is non profitable. It is a challenge, but in truth nothing is insurmountable. I feel certain about that. I think we are on the cusp of more social enterpreneurship and the desire to be involved in social businesses that work for the many rather than just self interest as to be honest I find that boring. Thankfully for me, I am not materialistic so I can live with less but there are few with my mindset who wish to sacrifice the potential profits for social good.
I should add here it has been the most exciting time of my life living on that edge. I’ve met so many people, stayed in so many homes, travelled the world and found myself traversing into unknown territory literally everyday. Life became alive and exciting for me. Spiritually (expanding love within) I am slowly awakening to the realisation it is all about vision, positivity and balance that manifests our dreams and non attachment. Living in authenticity means there is no pressure to be seen to be or seek approval, you are yourself and that is great. Then others can be themselves and we no longer sit in judgement we are curious about the possibilities (I have that on my laptop screen – be curious not judgemental).
I agree in the short term the money is necessary to get exposure on television and to attract talented people, but in truth it is believing in yourself and feeling the harmony with your purpose that really is the springboard. I believe in the law of attraction that you attract what you need and I feel peace around what I have is what I need. I always have a roof, food and an adventure. We are moving into new times where I feel nothing is impossible. I feel that strongly. So I say that with excitement.
It is in allowing, it is in giving that we find our real wealth. I’ve often talked about the fools gold, these are the values within, they are not learned they are intrinsic, as you adhere to what is true within yourself you feel happier as you are being true to yourself. When you feel this peace life gets easier naturally. We limit ourselves by believing things should turn out this way or that. It is so important to go with the flow of life and show your candle, give light to others, that there is hope and great things are possible. For me greatness is in random acts, or kindness, it need not be in building the biggest building or getting into the Guiness Book of Records, it is about living your own dream and seeing it manifest. That is fun. I saw myself as a World Peace Clown and have become that, does it matter if I am not in 100 schools, at this point no, as the journey is my destination, I am learning about my purpose and developing my wisdom as I go. Experience is happening every moment. It is never dull for me. So don’t worry about where you are, enjoy it, be at peace with it, keep your dreams alive and work towards them as if you have them in the palm of your hand. I know peace is possible, as I feel it within me I am just waiting to see the shape it takes. It will definitely become our reality, that is how visionaries keep on, they just know inside it will happen. Know you are great whatever you are doing, you can never be anything less.
Enjoy this enlightened talk from Dan Pallotta, a very interesting guy.
