Human Adaptation to Nature is Real Sustainability

I have just found a video after I wrote this which reinforces we are one. It is pasted below the writing. En-joy

I have been writing my book and going back over old diaries where I allowed my mind to just flow and explore life. A very interesting discovery in my diary was about adaptation. I wrote about how culture was adaptation to surroundings. People naturally adapt to their families culture by copying behaviour. If you take that broader we adapt to our broader culture. We do that as an instinct as we see our survival linked to harmony with others, it is efficient, so we naturally conform.

It is interesting I surprised myself re-reading this as I speak of being unique and having the power to be different. It was great to re-read and realise that it is understandable why people find change hard, they simply are naturally wired to blend with others and quickly adapt to their surroundings. We see that in the workplace. That is why in business texts culture is spoken about as people tend to match their corporate culture. If you want change in the workplace you have to change the culture, which typically means the beliefs at the top given they are the opinion leaders in an organisation. So humans naturally adapt, they naturally seek to harmonise with others for order, certainty and security.

It is our true nature to find harmony, when we don’t then we are moving against what is natural and it is likely stress occurs. You see that when people are overloaded they can’t harmonise with others and they are concerned they may become isolated as they are not performing like the rest of the group, stress arises as fear of rejection or criticism. Criticism creates powerlessness and again survival innately comes in, as we need to feel in control to feel we can survive in an environment. Selfishness is not a good survival strategy as it alienates people and is self serving rather than working in harmony with the group for the benefit of the group. Positive thinking has been one way management has sought to develop creativity, harmony, cooperation and team building.

What I realised in my notes was that adaptation is what causes cultural differences as we adapt to our immediate environment naturally. You can see it so easily in experiments where we create games where there is one team against another, it is amazing how quick people identify with their team or partner, they naturally form these groups as they feel more confident and a sense of belonging happens and any threats are de-escalated. They are not alone. So diversity is simply groups of similarity or those in agreement in a broader group where there are bases of unity that join the groups.

People feel security and survival in groups and naturally form groups when they feel threatened, hence warring parties building conformity and strength within the group when faced with a threat to survival. Wars are a case in point, the threat can be real or orchestrated by those with vested interests, so our natural instinct to protect our group for survival can be manipulated to attack others in order to feel stronger and aid in what is perceived as security. Even bullying behaviour is seeking power in order to feel secure, powerful and safe. I learned that from children. When we teach people to question their thoughts, develop empathy, learn communication skills they begin to understand the other and see themselves in the other, this is when two adversarial parties make peace or resolve conflict, they begin to open up to other views and realise they are more similar than different.

In my musings I contemplated on how the differences are superficial in reality but unfortunately in our ignorance people create wedges to understanding or hold cultural grudges that can last decades or centuries. There is an unquestioned story repeated infinitem which people believe to keep the enemy alive for reasons of nationalism, perceived inner strength and loyalty.

In truth we have a common consciousness because we are the one species. Levels of awareness differ but ultimately we are the human species and we are similarly conscious. We are not unlike schools of fish we swim in the same direction then the other in unison in response to danger or changing currents. Media is the thought control mechanism getting us to believe we are the same (imagined community) and thinking similarly so we will go along with what is said and believe it together.

We as humans have many similarities unfortunately through culture, tradition and other environmental factors we let superficial adaptive differences divide us, it taints our perceptions of our overall oneness as a species. When I travelled the world I started to perceive differently, I was seeing each nation I visited as part of my family and the land part of my land as one earth ecosystem. The ecosystem is a good model for us to re-member we are the one species on the one earth. The ecosystem is a harmonious system where the sum of the parts forms the whole, whereby each aspect of the system is interdependent within groups of homogenous species as boundaries. Nature has created genetic boundaries that ensure the survival of the whole system. Natural selection favours genetics that enhance survival, if the characteristic makes a species vulnerable it will die off, as the system is programmed to survive as a whole. This is what humanity is yet to learn that the sum of the parts is the whole and when we are all on the same page, in tune with our true nature, our survival is guaranteed. To date we do not know ourselves and that inner peace and natural harmony is estranged.

When we contemplate our adaptation to the planet it is clear we are not adapting to the natural systems and responding to natures signals. We have created our own artificial economic systems and built systems of infrastructure and behaviour which have formulated our human jungles. We feel at home in these environments and have adapted to them. We cannot imagine it being different so we stay in the same rhythm of life and we do not change, because no-one else is, so we adapt to what is around us. In group think psychologists discuss how when a few people think the same way the group will adapt and adopt the same thoughts. If you have a manager or leader thinking in a certain way and this person is a dictator, others will conform for safety reasons and go with group think until it is questioned, this is called mind control. We sometimes may use derogatory words or isolate those who we perceive as different or threatening to our way as we are afraid of change. We don’t know how to adapt to this new way so we stay with what is familiar, it feels safe and secure. Even if environmentally the planet is breaching tipping points, if the greater group think doesn’t change we will go along with it, because it is easier. To buck the trend brings threats to our sense of peace and safety, so we stay in the comfort zone.

In order to adapt with planetary changes we have to live in nature once again. That means living sustainably where we grow our own plants, farm animals, collect water, build harmonious communities where we know each other and live closer to the earth. The reason this is important is that we will naturally adapt to earth changes. We can talk about sustainability all we like, we can get degrees in environmental science, climate change or advocacy but at the end of the day, until we live it we cannot create it as we haven’t adapted. This takes time to adjust. The living it is important from a creating point of view, the law of attraction which manifests change automatically when you see it, feel it and breathe it. You draw to you the experience of sustainability. I know this works as I’ve done it many times in my own life. I am choosing to live peace so I think it, breathe it, feel it, practice it and overtime I am drawing peace to me in a myriad of ways. I actually have a peaceful life as my thoughts harmonise with the reality of peace. It is the same for sustainability. The law of attraction can work on big or small things the same. The mind does not know the difference between what is imagined and real so if you live it like it is real, whallah, sustainability is reality.

Education or teachings for real peace within are ways in which we learn change beliefs and learn to see our ature and how human nature works when in harmony with our true nature. We realise that anger is a cry for help, bullying is powerlessness seeking power, criticism is low self esteem and superiority is the desire to feel better than others, this is coming from inferiority. We start to feel peace as we can address the issues causing discord which innately threatens survival, a peace psychology de-escalates the feeling of threat.

However, if we don’t learn about human nature we will see more differences through conditioned beliefs and learned culture. As a human species when we learn about universal values we realise we all share them. Naturally if someone is hurt we feel for them (empathy) and help. When we feel love we see only beauty and love life, we are gentle with ourselves and others. When we see something needs to be done we will take responsibility and work cooperatively together and so on. These are examples of universal values that humans experience naturally, so when we look at cultures through this lense we can see we are similar. So human values is what creates the sense of unity and returning to nature is what connects us to the natural systems moving us away from artificial systems which are not sustainable.

So if you want to change the world, you do have to change yourself and live in a different way. Live in a way that supports life systems and harmony between people. For peace and harmony are outgrowths from love and love is unity between people when we learn to see our similarities are stronger than our differences. Then adapt to a universal culture that sees humanity as a collective and sustains the planet.

At the end of the day you have to walk the talk and live the peace and sustainability you wish to see. Only when you ‘be the change you wish to see in the world’ will it occur. We are indeed an adaptable species but we need to be placed in the new environment to adapt and it must be lifestyles that are in harmony with nature otherwise we won’t survive. As is the case in the present system. It need not be regressive or primitive. It can be simple in that you have more time, slower paced, less stress, peaceful, healthy and self reliant so you do not need to pay bills. If this is coupled with earth based philosophies of oneness focusing on unity you will start to witness this new world emerge, naturally.

What blocks this new earth is the prevailing paradigms that link our survival to economic growth and wealth accumulation. This viewpoint is short term and has no vision for the longer term future and the survival of children. So change will be fought and marketing will be used to keep people in the prevaiing system so that others can maximise their profits. This system is a greed based system which inspires selfishness so it is not sustainable. Because profit is the incentive people do not think of social benefit they see self interest and markets. So they are encouraged through profit signals to keep on with production, consumption and money making in the belief they gain personal security. However, if this system undermines life support systems then clearly it is out of harmony with nature and we are not adapting to nature, we are adapting to economic growth which is not sustainble. If all live like the United States we need 4 earths to supply the demand, we do not have that. It becomes a race to the botom. So that is the reality facing the status quo.

To force others to change when they are in a lifestyle that is unsustainable and they are not choosing to change is also not in harmony with nature. Simply you change and the world will change without force. Quite naturally others will observe your joy, peace and simplicity and want to adapt to it, so they too can be happy like you. They see themselves in you, that is the feeling of oneness. So gently more and more change their lifestyles as they choose harmony. That is the beginning of peace on earth.

Here is video on oneness, are next step in adaptation is to see ourselves in each other. There is no other. Interesting thought when you think of the sub atomic level.

Be one and be in joy.
