Unconditional Love is a Gift to You

I think back to all the love I’ve given in this life, it has been an endless stream of unconditional love.  I am one of the lucky ones that if I don’t get what I desire, I still love.   It is true to say, it is who we are.

Life has so many contrasts, so unpredictable and for those of us dedicated to love, it can be a long road.  I have often said to children that we weaken to fight, it takes real strength to love under all conditions.

I think of falun Gong in this moment, people dedicated to a healing modality and persecuted brutaly by Chinese authorities. They suffered enormously, many of them ordinary men and women. Qi Gong is a 5,000 year old discipline. I remember one story of a practitioner being beaten and she handed the guard a handkerchief to wipe his brow. She was showing him by example, compassion. Can you imagine such selflessness.

I recall Gandhi’s life of great sacrifice to show the world another way to peace. He practiced love (ahimsa) and truth (satyagraha) as the foundation of nonviolence. He was influenced by the nonviolence of the Jains. Jainism believed in nonviolence of thought, word and deed, indeed non resistance was their creed, to resist nothing. It was a wise teaching.

Peace Pilgrim was an American woman back in the 1950’s who spent 15 years in preparation bringing her life into alignment with the life pattern. She lived at the point where need equals want. She was a consciencious objector to war and chose not to contribute tax to this industry, instead making of her life an example of peace. She walked 25,000 miles for peace, owning nothing and walking until the world found peace. She walked across the United States 7 times. I always remember her saying god led her to where she needed to go. She could sleep anywhere, she just ordered the body to sleep on the ground, if there was no food she fasted, if food was there she ate. One story that struck me was when she stayed at a farm and this man followed this child into the barn. She noted the child’s fear attracted this man. She then walked to the barn and stood between the man and the child. She shone unconditional love to this man, she never said a word. He stood and looked really hard at her and then after a long while he just left.

Byron Katie is another who just suddenly woke up or some would say, awakened. She spoke of realising that none of her thoughts were true. She said The Work (www.thework.com) was born inside her. The Work is called inquiry and questions for truth and then turns the negative thought around and you wear that thought or see it from the opposite direction. She said she spent a year going through every negative thought she held and undoing it by turning it around. She said negative thoughts were 100% projection. She explained this is where all wars start. As she released all her erroneous thoughts, she was undoing it for the entire world. She discovered no thought was new, they just float in and out. We and our world are one, all thoughts have been thought by all people. I always remember her saying how do you know when you need something you’ve got it, how do you know you don’t need it, it is not there. I found that thought particularly comforting. Reality is what is so, it is the here and now whether you like it or not, there is no story. She saw god as reality. It means it is all as it is supposed to be, in perfect order. She sat with people and said she had waited her entire life to meet this person, in that moment they were her world. She sat there in a state of unconditional love. She said she loved every person she met. She had not had one moment of stress since she woke up. She never held onto any thoughts, as the person left the past dissolved and the future didn’t exist, she lived precisely in the present moment. She explained it was a place of great freedom and joy. In fact her book was called A Thousand Names for Joy. She has helped hundreds of thousands of people through a simple process of the Work. She gives of herself whether she is sick or not, just making herself available, as love has no conditions to giving. It was uplifting and awakening to learn of her remarkable experiences.

There have been so many in our immediate life and in previous generations who have given of themselves for the benefit of others. I can think of no more nobler action than to serve love. In my own life I have realised that when I made peace my intention and my purpose everything in my life came under that spotlight. I had to change myself to be in alignment with my own truth. Intention creates your life. So it is wise to choose higher goals and visions and then eventually you will step into them. Nothing is without trial or sacrifice but looking at those examples of true peace and love, you cannot help but feel inspired by the great good in this world. Much of it is not on the news. It is better to go out and discover it for yourself.

The last email I wrote a man who I’d loved for a long time seeking the truth from him. He gave nothing in return yet he was the one who showed me that my love was truly unconditional and real. In truth his silence was a great gift.

I wrote…

“I have shown that love is real and unconditional in this world. No-one need do anything to deserve it. Good luck on your journey. I regret nothing.”

I believe it is better to suffer for love and be completely honest then hide in fear of being hurt. You have to follow your heart to be authentic.

Every person is worthy of love even those who appear cruel or cold, they especially deserve love and if you are strong enough to give it, then open your heart. Who knows the ripple effect. Many are deeply afraid of real love, they feel vulnerable and not in control. Such is the power of love.

Anyway this is Eckhart Tolle a gift of unconditional love to this planet.  He was the author of stillness speaks.  The is dedicated to all people who give unconditional love to children, friends, parents, partners, strangers, animals and the planet. Thank god you exist. Love is worth every pain and struggle, when you get over that hill of heartache or difficulty you will see love is truly wonderful and it is the making of you. You find a strength within you, indeed a force more powerful than anything on earth. Such is the true power of love.
