REAL HOPES for the Children of Syria

REAL HOPES for the Children of Syria

I watch the Syrian Youth Marching band play,

I play with the Syrian children,

One has a glint in his eye,

He pulls at my suit,

He wants to look in my bag,

He speaks in his language pleading,

As we tug at the door grinning,

He pulls one way,

I pull the other and laugh,

I mirror his words as sounds,

For he wants to play the clown.

We come together as war tears apart,

For I have come to share,

I have come to care,

As I stare at these magnificent people,

And try to imagine their crumbled home,

Blown from pillar to post,

I wonder why so mad

Assad?

Teaching peace to children is my mission,

I ask the parents for permission to teach,

For I will juggle,

Giggle,

Wiggle,

Squiggle,

And share what is fair,

Why to care is the real success,

That winning becomes losing,

To lose is to forget your humanity,

For this is the only sanity,

Worth living for.

To find peace is to remember,

It is to create a space and be still,

It is to know yourself,

And the other,

It is to be upfront not under cover,

It is above not below,

For true courage faces one self,

True love reveals ones face and hands,

As we explore how to speak without hurting,

We practice how to listen without speaking,

We learn to ask questions without blaming,

We discover the power in non-violence,

For this is the power of compromise,

The power to meet in the middle of no mans land,

This is the myth buster that needs no bunker,

For real intelligence makes space for being wrong,

Intelligence doesn’t always get it right,

To be wrong is the song of possibility,

For it is not in winning that you will win,

It is in spinning that you will become disoriented,

Harmonising with the earth’s rotation,

Learning the wisest quotation,

Is to reclaim your humanity as the greatest gift of creation,

For success is not in making money nor owning expensive things,

It is bringing your self to every table and breaking bread,

Sharing what you have with all visitors,

So no-one lives without,

For we are family,

And this table is round,

For everyone has REAL HOPES,

A place of common ground.

True equality is found in Responsibility,

And this means the ability to respond,

E
mpathy stands in the other’s shoes to feel how they feel,

A
wareness is to open your eyes to see without a story,

L
ove is to look for the good, the holy and the beautiful in all eyes,

H
onesty is to speak the truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth,

O
neness is to re-member your family is the world,

We breath one breath, we share one earth, we are each others keepers,

P
eace is balance, it is the yin and yang of dynamic change,

For life is dark and light,
When all is accepted,
Light becomes the lantern illuminating you through all doors,
To find home is where the light heart is,

E
njoyment is to find joy within,

Not at another’s expense but to give generously,
Laughter, kindness and levity are the pillars,
For this is the gravity that attracts all to you,

As Service becomes the ultimate purpose of life,

For as we serve life,
Life returns life,
And truth is loves e-motion,

This is the REAL HOPE for humanity to which I turn,

For I am the Fool for Peace,

I step off the cliff and allow life to carry me,

I have all I need within my heart,

And this I give to all,

For I am You,

And You are me,

And we live for

Eternity.

Mohandas Gandhi

“Nobody can hurt me without my permission.”
