Cain is Not Abel

This poem was written prior to the election of Obama during the campaign between himself and McCain. I felt McCain would lose the election. I wrote this poem in a moment of inspiration. I have explanatory notes beneath the poem as the metaphor is quite deep. Sometimes in my poetry I have Christian metaphor. It is not written from a religious perspective, the metaphors just arose as I write, I just write what comes without analysis.

I feel as a community we must reflect on the world we wish to see happen in the future. We are all respons-able, that is we are able to respond to the challenges that confront us and care for our true nature. There is much truth in the adage that we cannot eat money.

CAIN IS NOT ABEL

McCain is not abel,
Where ‘ol McDonald’s is the fable
that is the real estate,
As trees are deforested to graze beef cattle,
Arable land is hidden beneath a concrete jungle,
The patties feeds a hungry youth,
Starving for nutrition.

For the stock market is a feed lot,
Corralled into stations,
Waiting for the bells to ring,
But for whom does the bell toll?
When our time is up,
For when the last tree falls,
Who can eat money?

For this is the eve of adam,
For the tree of knowledge is not derivatives,
Or share options,
But the only option is to share,
Yields were never ratings of interests,
But abundance available free for all,
But there has been a free fall,
As greed did not take the big apple from the tree,
But the tree from the apple,
And the seed bank is losing deposits,
As alluvial soils,
Are blown away in one storm,
For inclement weather is the real sign,
That the climate has changed.

The Wall street farmers,
Were watching the profits,
Not counting the sheep,
As the red sea is dead,
Many scroll down seeking links to truth,
Alas the world is not harnessed in a Google search,
For we have become a lost civilisation as rising tides submerge islands of automation.

Many seek a martyr in the government,
The evil greed of the trader is cast the loser,
For to trade is to win or lose,
Business is a gamble,
And the game is only fun when winners are grinners.

Paradoxically all profit from prophets of doom,
As apathy renders the public not respons-abel,
Yet they are abel to respond if they wish,
To question a system of exploitation,
To re-form their con-federation,
But first they must look at their own red square,
Separating the president from the government,
As a separation of powers doctrine,
Becomes the only Washington consensus,
That is not abel to veto the common good.

For American capitalism is the firebrand,
As Chinese chequers buy up the fire sale,
But where does the fire trail lead?
Into a forest fire of the burning bush,
For the cowboy is gung-ho,
Leaving the corral gate open,
For the horses have bolted,
Market forces are not perfect stable mates,
And freedom is not unbridled greed,
Freedom seeks a win win as nature intended,
For all is one and one is all.

Yet when two thirds are starving the bubble must burst,
For only the Hubble telescope sees a universe beyond the capitol,
Yet it is accountable for what is discovered,
Denial sees profit in the twin towers,
As gold becomes the investment in the futures option,
A safe haven for those addicted to status,
And this is the statue of liberty that must fall,
For the light in the darkness is a new world order returning to first principles,
And this is the only value worth promoting.

The vanity of human enterprise is a vanity fair,
It is time to learn to share not trade,
To sustain not drain the bounty,
Africa must arise from its shackles,
And barrack for hope,
For the only constitutional rights of a global civil society,
Are life, liberty and happiness for all,
For that is the new world re-order that brings down the Walls
on the street,
For only then
will the global elite,
see further than self interest.

EXPLANATORY NOTES

McCain is not abel

• Refers to Presidential candidate McCain. The idea connects to the bible reference of Cain and Abel.

McDonalds is the fable
That is the real estate,
As trees are deforested to graze beef cattle,
Arable land is hidden beneath a concrete jungle,
The patty feeds a hungry youth,
Starving for nutrition.

• McDonalds main business is real estate, all the restaurants are placed on prime real estate and worth more than the burger business;
• The production of beef patties have caused deforestation
• Arable land is wasted under the restaurants;
• The youth are hungry for love and for nutritious food as parents don’t have time to cook.

For the stock market is a feed lot,
Corralled into stations,
Waiting for the bells to ring,
But for whom does the bell toll?
When our time is up,
For when the last tree falls,
Who can eat money?

• The stock market refers to the investing in grain fed cattle and turning beef production into a mechanised production line;
• The traders are often filmed around the stations where they can monitor graphs in the stock exchange;
• The metaphor captures the fact that the traders are also corralled like animals at the stock exchange;
• They trade up to the ringing of the bells;
• The bells will stop ringing when we have collapsed the world economy;
• We place value on money yet it is an illusion, we have disconnected to real value, which is the sustainability of life. Money is plastic.

For this is the eve of adam,
For the tree of knowledge is not derivatives,
Or share options,
But the only option is to share,
Yields were never ratings of interests,
But abundance available free for all,
But there has been a free fall,
As greed did not take the big apple from the tree,
But the tree from the apple,
And the seed bank is losing deposits,
As alluvial soils,
Are blown away in one storm,
For inclement weather is the real sign,
That the climate has changed.

• The reference uses adam and eve as the first persons, the sentence is a metaphor the decline of patriarchy;
• The tree of knowledge is also a mystical reference referring to true knowledge of humanity is not the clever trader in derivatives making money and believing this is success;
• The share options are incentives as executive packages rather than sharing the profits as shares with all employees;
• It is also a metaphor for sharing instead of self interest;
• Yields refers to abundance and interest rates, the reversal to ratings of interests refer to the few that profit from the yields as distinct from all people;
• The free fall is the falling stock market prices, passing through the floor;
• The big apple refers to New York and also the apple from the tree of knowledge;
• In Christian mythology eve was blamed for eating the apple as the downfall of mandkind, the metaphor is reversed where man is the downfall not by taking an apple which is available but deforesting the very tree, the root of survival;
• The blatant destruction of nature and plant life through cultivation and genetic engineering has resulted in seeds becoming redundant or lost to extinction;
• The alluvial soils is a link to the value of alluvial gold. The soil is the real gold, not the gold standard, and as a result of climate change, top soils are being lost and blowing away,
• The weather conditions are the true indicator of climate change, which is the real crises, the financial market is one storm. The climate change is unending and frequent storms on a scale unimaginable at this point.

The Wall street farmers,
Were watching the profits,
Not counting the sheep,
As the red sea is dead,
Many scroll down seeking links to truth,
Alas the world is not harnessed in a Google search,
For we have become a lost civilisation as rising tides submerge islands of automation.

• Wall street farmers are the acquisitions of large scale farming by those with corporate mind sets, they are not farmers, but are making decisions in relation to making money they are not interested in the wellbeing of the animals or the tradition of farming as a familial occupation;
• Not counting the sheep means they only see profits, they are not able to see the destruction caused by greed, buying up more and more, producing more and more, injecting hormones into livestock to affect the quality of meat, or the quality of milk. There is no compassion. This also refers to the shepherd who would watch the sheep. The sheep herder is a subtle reference to Obama’s background;
• the red sea is dead refers to the blood that has been spilt and the oceans dying;
• It is also a reference to the dead sea scrolls which contain hidden knowledge;
• Many believe they can understand the world through the internet, through cognitive knowledge yet truth is much deeper and more ancient than current analysis it emerges from one’s humanity;
• The truths referred to are universal;
• The word harnessed is a reference to control or a belief of complete knowledge from the world framed by the written word that is lost in a sea of links on the internet;
• The civilisation has clearly lost its way in the confusion of too much knowledge;
• Islands of automation were considered the sign of advanced technology and robotics in automobile production a symbol of advanced manufacturing. However, as industry collapses and the environment collapses the unsustainable mechanised technology will disappear.

Many seek a martyr in the government,
The evil greed of the trader is cast the loser,
For to trade is to win or lose,
Business is a gamble,
And the game is only fun when winners are grinners,

• All expectations have turned to the government to save the financial markets, they are according simply dichotomies of good and evil, punishment or reward, which is primitive thinking;
• The traders whilst successful were admired but they are now are verbally abused by the public outside as they leave Wall Street. This is a reflection of a shallow society that applauds the winners and boos the losers. Yet the public do not say much about the exploitation that is done in the name of profit;
• The stock exchange is the same as a casino, shares are gambled and speculation is what motivates trading, if speculation is accurate then shares prices rise, if wrong, they fall. This is the fun of the market you win sometimes you lose some times. Often the gambler is over optimistic and this is what keeps them in the game. Many jump out of windows if they lose everything because they believe the value of their life is about money which is how they view other lives.

Paradoxically all profit from prophets of doom,
As apathy renders the public not respons-abel,
Yet they are abel to respond if they wish,
To question a system of exploitation,
To re-form their con-federation,
But first they must look at their own red square,
Separating the president from the government,
As a separation of powers doctrine,
Becomes the only Washington consensus,
That is not abel to veto the common good.

• The prophets of doom is negative thinking, the losers on the market are the pessimists and the society as a whole is increasingly negative, this dumbs them down to their responsibility;
• Respons-abel is a reference to Abel in the story of Cain and Abel. Abel was the one watching the sheep. The public just watch what is going on;
• If they wish for a better world, for another way, then they would respond, but many accept what is the state of play and do nothing;
• For if the public were concerned about the outcomes of profiteering on the environment, exploitation of people, other nations etc. they would try and reform their government. The con-federation refers to the con game going on and the confederates, a federation of separate parts;
• Red square is referring to the Russian Red Square and the fact that it separates Parliament from the Government and also the buildings were made out of wood so it was to protect them from catching fire. Where there is smoke there is fire;
• Separation of powers – parliament, executive and bureaucracy to prevent corruption;
• The Washington consensus is not about economic rationalism (ideology) but to separate unelected powers from the president to ensure legitimate government;
